The Seagoville School of Optometry was founded in 1892 by Dr. George P. Seagoville and Dr. W. H. Weems in honor of their late father, Colonel James A. Seagoville, who served as the first president of the American Optometric Association (AOA). The school is one of only a few optometry schools in the United States still teaching graduate level classes today. During World War I, the Seagoville School became an armory and produced more than 100 opticians who served in the armed forces. In 1948, after years of growth at the school, it moved to its current location on Elm Street inSeagoville, Texas and opened its doors to all students from pre-kindergarten to doctoral degrees including optometrists and ophthalmologists! Today, the Seagoville School offers various undergraduate and graduate programs leading to professional certification as optometrists or ophthalmologists; as well as comprehensive continuing education opportunities for optical professionals throughout Texas. In addition to providing quality education for all students within our community through our undergraduate program and graduate program; we also provide many services that support our community such as optical retail stores located throughoutSeagoville that sell products from our faculty members’ practices; free eye exams for children age 6 months-12 years old; vision screenings available on a regular basis during business hours; diabetes self-testing service offered monthly; blood pressure testing option available upon request; Optical Imaging Lab which provides images for medical purposes including cataract surgery with local anesthesia using fluoroscope technology; numerous exhibits highlighting optics history and innovation across communities around America each year at various events such as Home Showdowns sponsored by Oklahoma City University Eye Care Associates Inc.; along with several popular award ceremonies honoring excellence among our graduates every year like “Top 25 Ophthalmology Schools” designation given by OMICS magazine each year since 2006! The Seagoville School District was established on October 1, 1881. The first schoolhouse in the district was built in 1882. In 1906, a new school building was constructed and the district's name changed to Seagoville Township. On February 14, 1912, the township became a borough when it merged with neighboring Hockley Township. On May 10, 1916, Seagoville Township officially became a city when it annexed part of the neighboring town of Grand Prairie.
Seagoville, Texas is a census-designated place located in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 871 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The community was named for Colonel John Seagrave, who donated land to the town in 1876.

By 1912, Seagoville had a population of 1,500 people and it became an important stop on the Chisholm Trail which connected Wichita Falls, Texas with Dallas, Texas. The town was also known for its annual Fourth of July parade which included floats filled with local children dressed in costumes from around Seagoville. In 1923, when the original Seagoville Bridge was built over the Trinity River, it became one of the first bridges in Texas designed by six-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Elie Wiesel. Today, Seagoville is home to several schools including two high schools and two junior colleges as well as a number of businesses including a bank and a hospital.
