The Seagoville post office has been in operation since 1886. The name "Seagoville" comes from Spanish and means "Island of the Salmon". The first inhabitants of what is now Seagoville were Indian traders who came to this area in the early 1800s for fish and other supplies. In 1836, Captain James Foard charted what is now Seagoville on his sailing vessel "Foard's Bayou". In February 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg made an attack against Fort Worth during the American Civil War. Union General John Buford organized and lead an ambush that resulted in the death of Bragg and five hundred Confederate soldiers. This event set off a firestorm throughout much of northwest Texas that lasted two weeks; Seagoville was one of these areas devastated by war damage and population growth due to men returning home to their homes after serving in campaigns elsewhere. After the war ended, many people returned to their former lifestyles as farmers or ranchers in this area near Austin. By 1902, there were just twelve residents living in Seagoville; by 1920 it had grown to over 220 people with a school and restaurant constructed soon thereafter- all within one block of each other on Main Street which still exists today as a mix of commercial/residential/industrial buildings blocks with residences towering above them

The history of Seagoville dates back to 1876 when two men, John A. Seagoville and James W. Hardesty, decided to settle in what is now eastern Texas. They named their new settlement after General James W. Polk who had been president during the American Civil War and they were motivated to name their town after Polk because he had played an important role in the war and then later became one of the most influential members of the United States Congress. In 1877, Seagoville began to develop as a farming community with wheat, corn and cotton being its main crops. However, within a few years this community had turned into an agricultural center due to its location and access to markets for goods produced in other parts of Texas. By 1900, Seagoville had become an important commercial center with several stores, businesses and factories located there including The Clothing Shop (later known as JCPenney), The Ford Machine Works (later known as Ford Motor Company) and The Grain Millinery shop (later known as Grains & Seeds). Additionally, Seagoville also became home to many schools including East Side High School which was opened in 1907; West Side High School which was built in 1916; White Settlement Elementary School which was built in 1923; Southside Intermediate School which was built in 1927; Northside Intermediate School which was built in 1930; and finally West Side Junior/Senior High School which was built in 1939. continually developing throughout its history has been the economy of Seagoville with agriculture becoming less significant over time lineup replacing manufacturing as the dominant sector of the economy until recently when it has once again become increasingly dominated by services such as education and health care
The town of Seagoville, Texas was founded in 1881 by James A. Seagoville and his family. The town grew rapidly after its founding and soon became a popular tourist destination for people from all over the United States.
