In 1857, a Mr. and Mrs. Pritchard erected a target range on their property in what is now known as Old Hill. This range was used by both civilians and military during the early years of Seagoville. By 1872, the Pritchett's had built a much larger target house which served as their personal shooting ground for many years. In 1892, Confederate General Braxton Bragg arrived in Texas to campaign for President Andrew Johnson and his policies were met with hostility by local farmers and residents who saw him as another Yankee invaders coming to take away theirindependence. On July 10th, 1892Braxton Bragg ordered his forces to destroy all Union gun targets throughout southern Texas without mercy or quarter. Many Union gunners who had collectedTarget trophies over the previous year decided to fight back against this aggression; some took up rifles and attacked civilian shelters while others hid inside buildings until it was over. By 1895, Gun Targets had become an important part of everyday life inSeagoville when organized sports teams started using them as outdoor practice facilities (eager young boys would often jump out onto thetarget platforms during warm weather practices). In 1945 the United States military destroyed much of the town including its courthouse and many homes. Today only a few remains from Seagoville remain; these include a few homes that are used for storage purposes, and a large cemetery that is still used for burials today.
