In the early 1800s, Seagoville was one of the most important cannon and rifle towns in Texas. The town had a population of over 500 people in 1836. It was also the home of Judge John Smith, who played a significant role in the Texas Revolution. The town's first gunsmith was James Henton, who worked from 1798 to 1835. His shop is still extant and is open to visitors today. He manufactured rifles, cannons, pistols, and other firearms. Many of these weapons were used during the Mexican-American War and World War II. The next gunsmith to work here was Nicholas Sparks. Seagoville is a small town in the East Texas region of the United States. It is located on the banks of the Brazos River and is bounded by Haskell County to the north, Grimes County to the east, Newton County to the south, and Victoria County to the west. The population was 4,711 at the 2010 census. Seagoville was founded in 1849. The town name comes from John Seagrave, who donated land for a post office and courthouse in 1853. The first school in Seagoville opened in 1857 and served as a daycare for local children until 1917 when it became an all-girls school. In 1951, Seagoville began operating its own water system which still provides service today. In 1957, Seagoville hosted its first rodeo and has been hosting various events ever since. The town also hosts annual Poppy Day ceremony which celebrates American poppies. Today, Seagoville remains an important community with strong ties to its agricultural roots which continue to play a major role in its economy. The town's largest employer is West Texas Cattlemen's Association which manufactures cattle feed products such as hay and corn silage. Seagoville, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas, located in Williamson County. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census and 3,045 as of 2016. It lies on the banks of the Navarro River between Tyler and Austin. The Seagoville post office was established on October 15, 1885 by J.W. Dunnigan with one mailbox from what is now downtown Seagoville. In 1892, Phebe Ager added her home to the town limits and it became a station stop for stagecoach travel between Austin and San Antonio until 1915 when railways arrived to take over intercity travel in Texas. The present day Seagoville courthouse was built in 1916 and enlarged in 1951-1957 when Seagoville annexed part of Tyler Heights which included much of today's downtown area including the old high school building which still stands today (now used as apartments). In 1886 John Cockerill founded Cockerill Lumber Company which became one of the largest lumber companies in East Texas before it merged with another company two years later to form United States Lumber & Paper Mills but continued to be called Cockerill Lumber Company until 1941 when it changed its name once again to United States Paper Mills Incorporated that still exists today as a subsidiary of Koch Industries Incorporated headquartered in Wichita Falls, TX

The town was named for General James F. Seagoville, an American general who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as Governor of Texas.
