Seagoville is a town in Hood County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The land that now Seagoville was first settled by English immigrants in the 1830s. In 1854, a post office called "Saginaw" was established in what is now Seagoville; it continued to be used until 1881. In 1892, the community name was changed to "Cedar Park". Cedar Park became an independent municipality in 1913 and ceased to exist as a town in 1920 when it merged with Hood County. The first Post Office building in Seagoville (then Cedar Park) opened on October 6, 1912. The current Post Office building (built 1935) replaced an earlier structure built about 1910-15 which served as a jail and courthouse for both Cedar Park and nearby Alexandria. In 1922, Seagoville annexed the unincorporated communities of White Rock and Round Rock Creek from Hood County; these towns were then known as "Addison". Addison ceased to exist as an entity after its annexation into Seagoville. During World War II, many American soldiers serving in Europe were stationed at Camp Bowie located near present-day Arlington Heights within hood county; some of these troops may have visited or resided in Seagoville while they were there. As such, Cedar Park Boulevard - which runs through segovailles downtown area - became known locally as " America's Driveway." In 1948 Congress passed the Housing Act which allocated funds for rural housing projects across America; one such project was meant to address the needs of steelworkers living near Dallas/Ft Worth Airport who had difficulty accessing affordable housing outside of their city limits

The town's origins can be traced back to 1849, when Captain John S. Seagoville set out from Wichita Falls on his journey across central Texas. He stopped at what is now Seagoville for supplies before continuing on his way to Lubbock. Although there were other settlements located near present-day Seagoville at that time, it was only afterCaptain John S.Seagoville's arrival that this area began to become known as the "Cotton Capital of Texas." In 1853, Captain John S.Seagoville constructed the first post office in what is now SeagOVILLE; however, it would not be until 1861 that the town proper would be established. At that time, San Antonio became the state capital and SeAGOVILLE was selected as its temporary seat; however, within two years San Antonio again became the state capital and SeAGOVILLE once again withdrew its bids for inclusion in its new city government system. In 1865, captain John segwayvilled away again when he erected aWagon Wheel Bridge over Comanche River which connected what is now downtown with present day Second Street/West Side Drive). This bridge facilitated easy access both into and out of town while also providing settlers with views of Selma Valley below which they could see Buffalo Hills (now part of downtown Austin) range far away to the south while still seeing Mount Hood visible to the north The following year saw another major milestone for segwayville when construction began on what would later become First Avenue which ran parallel to current Second Street/West Side Drive). This street served as an artery linking many different parts of town including Post Office Square - currently home to several local businesses - along with Mrs Ford's Bakery & Coffee House (currently known as White Sands Pizza), Mr Bickley's bakery (now called Joe Montana's BBQ), Mrs Smith's general store (currently known as Walmart), etc.. Today First Avenue continues throughout downtown SEAGOVILLE serving both commercial and residential needs alike! In 1865 CaptainJohnS Segofville also erectedwhat is nowthe United States Courthouse located adjacenttoFirstAvenuealongwith numerous other governmental buildings including jail cells, courtroom facilities, ballroom/speakers hall etc... Additionally during this time period several mills were built such As The Cotton Mills Company Ltd., The Fayette Millinery Company Ltd., The Pemberton Millinery Company Ltd., The Waco Textile Mills Inc., etc... These mills provided employment for many locals who helped build some of today’s iconic landmarks in SEAGOVILLE! Later that same year CaptainsJohnSSegofvilleandSamuel Huggins transplanted some 200 acres(approximately 20 miles) eastward from Wichita Falls into what is nowSEAGOVILLESouthern
The first people to settle in Seagoville were the Pecos Indians, who arrived in 1836. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who was then the U.S. Vice President. The town wasn't founded until 1849 when a post office called Seagoville was established. In 1870, the railroad came to Seagoville and it began to grow quickly. By 1900, the population had reached 100 people and by 1920, it had grown to 1,500 people. The town continued to grow until the early 1960s when it hit its heyday thanks to oil production and jobs that came with it. However, during the late 1960s and through the 1970s,Seagoville started to decline as manufacturing left for newer locations in Texas and North Carolina.
