Seagoville is a town in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1881 by John Seagoville and his family as a small post office on the banks of the Trinity River. The name derived from Sitka Point, about south of present-day Seagoville. The post office was renamed Seagoville in 1903 after James A. Seagoville, an early settler and brother of Houston businessman J. P. Seagoville. During World War II, much of Gregg County became a military training area known as Camp Livingstonousy because it housed primary radar equipment development facilities for the United States Army's Fifth Air Force (later USAF). In 1957, when mobile home parks began to spread throughout Texas during the decade that followed the end of World War II,Seagoville started to experience rapid growth due to its close proximity to new shopping malls and highway exit ramps for Interstate 10/Upper Arlington Hwy., which had been built just east of downtown Dallas since before refrigerated trucks were common in North America (and what are now called "trucks on wheels"). In 1970s there were several large subdivisions being developed around serenity lakes; these developments have led to increased traffic congestion on I-10 near downtown Dallas and along FM 19606 outside town limits; however this has not negatively impacted attendance at local businesses or tourism within town limits ranching continues to be an important economic activity here with many families owning ranches that provide food for their families while they farm or hunt

The Seagoville community was founded in 1892 by Scottish immigrants, James and Ellen Gillespie. The name is derived from the sound made when waves crash against the shore. At first, the Gillespie family farms were located on the far side of the bayou. But as size and population increased, they began to develop a small town around their farmstead. By 1910, Seagoville had a post office, three churches, two schools, and a general store. The Gillespie family also became involved in local politics and served as town councillors for many years. In 1922, they donated land to form what is now downtown Seagoville.
