The Seagoville Independent School District serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade; four high schools (grades 9 through 12) serve students from Archer County proper; two junior colleges (Texas A&M University-Commerce and Rice University); a community college (Houston Community College); one business park; two golf courses; three nursing homes; two shopping malls (Target Field mall, IHOP restaurant chain outlet mall), and several thousand residential units including multiplexes, condominiums/townhomes/apartments, as well as a small airport serving local air cargo services.

Seagoville, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas and is the seat of Vernon County. The population was 5,782 at the 2010 census. It lies east of Dallas-Fort Worth on the Red River floodplain and east of Austin on I-35W. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Seagoville has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa". The community was founded by pioneer settlers in 1849 as Seagoville Landing on Buffalo Bayou in present day Vernon County. In 1875 it became an incorporated town with a post office and schoolhouse. In 1901 it absorbed neighboring Covington into its municipal system. On July 1, 1907, Seagoville became an unincorporated community again when its incorporation was revoked by Vernon County authorities because of lack of funds from a proposed sales tax for public works projects. The first post office in Seagoville opened on October 24, 1849; it closed on December 6, 1909. The first settler to arrive in what is now Seagoville was James Denton who arrived with his family from Missouri on August 3, 18482 A ferry service operated between Buffalo Bayou and Pecos Island until 1840 when navigation improved making this route unsafe for shipping vessels large enough to load goods ashore without risking damage or loss overboard while docked at Pecos Island There are several generations documented that have lived here including Jens Nielsen (1894-1983) who grew up hereabouts and started his own pet chicken farm called “Prairie chickens” which he operated until he sold out to local farmers in 2006 When he died young his son took over operations continuing until today . pony express riders stopped traveling through town about 1912 so mail delivery switched to Dallas/Fort Worth
The town of Seagoville was founded in 1871 by a group of investors who located the colony on the banks of the Brazos River.
