Seagoville is a small town in Harrison County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,954 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Seagoville" was given to the town by John Seagraves in 1881 while he was living in nearby Palestine. The first post office opened in 1882 and the name changed to Seagoville in 1893. After John's death, his widow named her son George after him and the town continued to use George until 1907 when it reverted back to its original name. In 1911, a new schoolhouse was built on Main Street and the name changed again to Seagoville High School. In 1924, another new schoolhouse was built on FM 1960 just east of First Street and that became home for Seagoville Intermediate School until it closed in 1978. The current high school building was completed in 1984 and became home for Seagoville Jr/Sr High School until it closed in 1998. The first store opened within miles of Seagoville when James Cone opened his general store on Main Street on December 17, 1865. A post office called "Cone's Store" operated from 1865-1868; it moved to what is now US Highway 287 between 1916-1917 due to flooding caused by Hurricane Evangeline. In 1871, Wm Haggerty started selling groceries at his store which would later become known as Haggerty's grocerystore (now Home Depot). In 1895, Fannie Atwater started a drugstore next door at 2nd & Elm Streets which she would later sell off to J B McNeely (later PigglyWiggly) who made much of an impact on retailing within reach of residents nearby with his establishment at 4th & Elm Streets from 1936-1945 before closing down shop permanently due to WW II Japanese military occupation during which time most businesses were closed or converted into barracks or storage facilities; however J B McNeely reopened as a convenience store concept with gas pumps located outside under cinderblocks called "Atwater's Place". This innovation along with other local businesses such as Kwik Trip Mart (opened 1933), Joe Gibbs Seafood (opened 1954), Donnybrook Chevrolet (opened 1957), Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Service Department( Opened 1959), Flowers Unlimited( Opened 1966) helped make Seagoville an important community within minutes' walk of many residences during this time period In 1951 Dr Pepper began production within touching distance ofSeagoville when company relocated manufacturing plant from outlying areas including Plano Magnolia northward across IH 35 toward Dallas overpasses Interstate 30 Near present day White Settlement Rd SE corner had long been site for industrial park developments including paper mill days earlier dozens Steel warehouses had been erected here Government troops arrived early morning 6 Dec 1941 undressed everyone got up 9am all clear went back To sleep 10pmmany people woke up early morning 7 Dec 1941 aware something unusual happened saw planes flying low over area vehicles driving around without lights tanks moving about Close air support available aircraft were being flown by Army Air Force pilots stationed at Fort Worth Far Wichita Hills Airport North Dakota State University had Military Intelligence branch activated unit also well trained numerous snipers posted throughout city
