Seagoville, Texas is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Seagoville began as a tiny Indian settlement called Eagleville on April 28, 1836, by Capt. John Witherspoon and his men during the military occupation of Texas after the Mexican-American War. On May 10, 1836, following the Battle of Lone Star Hill (also known as San Jacinto), Texans under Lt. Col. James Fenton proclaimed themselves the "Republic of Texas" and renamed all settlements east of Bexar County Asalacotla to honor General Antonio López de Santa Anna's forces who had repulsed them at that battle six days earlier. On December 20th, 1840, Ulysses S. Grant arrived in Austin with an army to declare independence from Mexico and founded the Republic of Texas on January 6th,. The original settlers in Seagoville were Captain John Witherspoon’s men and their families who had followed Grant westward from Oklahoma Territory into central Tarrant County in search of a new home for themselves and their children; many others came soon thereafter including Captured William Hance’s bandit gang who had terrorized nearby Aransas Pass for years prior to arriving in what would become Seagoville on November 8th 1830

On July 1, 1845, the first post office in Seagoville was established. The town was named for Captain John Seagoville of the Texas Navy who had served as a captain during the Mexican-American War. The first store in town was built by Wm. Coggeshall and Mr. Knowles. The first school in Seagoville was opened on October 15, 1849 by Mrs. Aiken and taught grades one through four. It operated out of a small room located on Second Street between Highways 6 and 8. In 1870, the Seagoville School District was formed which included all of Seagovilles north side including present day Seagoville Township as well as unincorporated portions of Potter County to the eastward including present day Pampa County. In 1902, a new high school building was erected on Main Street which served both public and private schools until it burned down in 1955. In 1927, an addition to Old West High School (now known as Powerschool)was completed which contained a gymnasium/auditorium with a rehearsal theater/band shell that could be used for dances or plays etc., three classrooms (one each for Boys & Girls Classes), locker rooms and administration offices totaling 26 feet x 36 feet with an additional 10 feet wide aisle running along one short length of the rear wall between these rooms providing ample space for choir practice before large events at Old West or any other local theater; also included were two music rehearsal studios totaling 22 feet x 24 feet with sawtooth roofs! This addition brought approximately 450 square feet (40 m2) total floor area to our now defunct high school! In 1951, another addition to old west high school became available when First Baptist Church donated land across from I-10 south of town for use as their future athletic field stadium! This new facility consisted of a single football ground measuring 25 yards long by 16 yards wide with aattiements such as bleachers/tents/water tanks surrounding it; this allowed us to host our very own state championships game vs #3 TCU back in 1954!!! And finally - just like that - we had our very own municipal government!!!
