Seabrook is a small town in Chambers County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Chambers County. The community was founded by Scotsmen in 1876 and named for Admiral John Seabrook who fought with American forces during the Mexican-American War. In 1907, Seabrook post office moved to its present location and its ZIP code 87068 was first assigned on November 2, 1907. The town began as a Spanish rancho called Rancho de las Brisas (Ranch of Spring Waters). A group of Scotsmen from Edinburgh arrived in 1876 and started to farm the land that would become Seabrook. They named their new community after Admiral John Seabrook who had fought with American forces during the Mexican-American War. The town's name was changed to Seacrest in 1907 when it became apparent that there were no other communities nearby with similar names. In 1916, Seabrooks built their first school which served all of them and their surrounding rural areas until it burned down in 1951. They also built the first municipal building which still stands today - an interesting structure designed by local architect Simeon Wiman which includes a clocktower and two large hallways that lead into four large rooms each filled with classrooms, a library/service wing and aarten room/hall where public events were held such as dances and fairs. The town continued to grow through World War II as war production increased around Seabrook; however, due to wartime conditions plant closures occurred throughout the country which left many jobs unfilled in what turned out to be one of America’s lost industrial regions. However, since repeal of Prohibition in 1988 many businesses have reopened including several restaurants that once functioned exclusively outdoors under tents or marquees while others have relocated inside structures such as an arena capable of hosting up to sixty people without having any crowding problems indoors like some other towns had done before them thanks largely to advances in technology like air conditioning! Today's economy is based largely on agriculture but also includes Manufacturing (particularly textiles), Service industry (liquor store) & retail trade although some manufacturing has recently relocated outside this area due technological advancements & advances being made within this field
The town of Seabrook, Texas was founded in 1874 by William Tecumseh Sherman and his wife, Rachel. The town was named after General Sherman because he helped move the town from its original location on the Brazos River to its current site. The first post office in Seabrook was established in 1876. The population of Seabrook grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to the fact that there were no trees enough to provide fuel for locomotives, so people would come out and burn logs that were brought downriver. In 1892, a sawmill was built in Seabroook and began producing lumber. By 1921, the sawmill had shut down and the town's only industry was farming.
