Seabrook, Texas is a small town in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex located in East Texas. The population was 5,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth– Arlington metropolitan area. The Seabrook post office opened on March 16, 1872 and closed on July 14, 1988. The Seabrook Baptist Church first organized in 1881 and now has a membership of over 500 people. The early settlers were farmers who harvested corn and wheat from their land. By 1915, Seabrook had two General Motors plants and about 100 businesses including several banks and clothing stores. In the late 1940s, defense contractor Raytheon bought a large tract of land adjacent to the city limits for $2 million to build an airfield which became known as Raytheon Field Airport (later renamed Arlington Air Force Base). Today's community contains few original structures from that time but much new development has taken place since then including the opening of two high school campuses in nearby Cedar Hill and Richland Hills—one public and one private—in addition to six hospitals (four primary care clinics and four specialty clinics), several restaurants, a movie theater, three golf courses (two professional), five Walmarts (three full service chains), two shopping malls (One anchored by Sears etc.), three water parks, eight thousand square feet of retail space within city limits, more than twenty-five acres of parkland across Loop 610 South from downtown Dallas/Fort Worth Center Park south to Interstate 10 east to Uptown Dallas/Arlington Cemetery north; as well as numerous churches including First Baptist Church which formed its own congregation in 1886 with thirty members; St Mark's Episcopal Church which formed its own congregation in 1902 with seventy-eight members; Methodist Episcopal Church which founded its first church building in 1907 with ninety-six members; Presbyterian Church which built its first church building in 1909 with ninety-six members; Catholic Archdiocese of Dallas erected its first parish house for worshiping Catholics at what is today called Union Station - now home to Arlington Transit Authority - on November 15th 1947 with fifty-four priests serving Andover Road near present day IH 35 south within walking distance of nearly all residents while also serving schools such as Our Lady Of Fatima Parish School District #1 east of downtownDallas/Fort Worth Center Park just off IH 35 across Elm Street from Arlington High Schoolnorthwest into UptownDallas/Arlington Cemetery north also served by Holy Name Cathedralmany other churches throughout DFW metroplexand numeroussynagogues throughout DFW suburbs
