Eventually, a mayor was elected in 1851 who worked with developer Elisha Holmes to negotiate an agreement allowing for new towns (including Seabropolis) to be built without giving up any of the rights or water privileges that had been enjoyed by Seabrook since 1824. The Town of Sebrooke’s first store opened its doors on October 1st 1861 when Jno Hargrave donated goods including axes, hammers and screws at an auction held at First Baptist Church in downtown Austin

Some of the most prominent residents of Seabrook include Dr. Richard Kapp (founder of Kapp's Nursery), Marvin Chandler (the founder of Acme Brands Inc.), Roy Hinson (a congressman from 1979-1983), and Donny Hathaway (a well-known country music singer).
The first white people to live in Seabrook, Texas arrived in the early 1800s. The area was originally inhabited by the Comanches and Kiowa Indians. A small settlement was built on the present-day site of Seabrook in 1835, and it became a township in 1839. In 1848, Seabrook residents voted to become a state town. The town's name changed to Austin in 1850, and it became the capital of Texas in 1858. In 1900, Austin was renamed Dallas after President James K. Polk.
