Seabrook, Texas is a town located in Ellis County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The name means "Island of the Breezes." The town was founded in 1881 by John Seabrook and named for him. The first post office in Seabrook opened on November 15, 1881. The town of Seabrook was founded in 1881 by John and Melissa Seabrook. The Seabrooks were the first settlers in what is now Texas. They built a cabin on the banks of the Trinity River, and started a small agricultural business. In 1889, they bought land east of town, set up a gristmill, and began to grow crops. In 1915, they donated land to the city of Austin for development purposes. In 1926, they sold their farm to the City of Austin for $1 million.
