The Town of Seabrook, Texas was founded in 1876 by the brothers Louis and John Seabrook. The town was named after a cape on the Gulf of Mexico that is now known as Cape Kennedy. In 1883, the town had a population of eighty-five and it was small enough to be incorporated as a Village. On November 6, 1886, Seabrook became the seat of government for Starr County when all but one of its fellow townships seceded from Baylor County. The only remaining township - Kellyville - chose not to secede and remained within Baylor County. In 1890, Seabrook had a population of two hundred and fifty-eight; it had also become an urban center with three churches, two schools, and thirty-six businesses. In 1928, the first gas station inSeabroookwas builtandthe first telephone line reachedSeabrockon October 1, 1929. By 1935 there were five stores located inSeabrockand twenty-seven businesses employing more than fifty workers. The post office opened at 7:00A.M., on November 9th; it served the community until 1954 when it closed due to expanding postal service requirements within Washington County alone! On January 25thof 1957,[1]thelastmailpackagesfromHoustontoPasadenawere delivered through Seaborokealongwith other mail services throughout rural Starr County!On May 11thof 1969,[2]Texas State Highway 183 was completed betweenSeaborokeanda Van Zandt Center following many years of planning by local officials!
In 1881, the first post office was established in Seabrook. The town's name originated from a swamp near the original location of the post office.
