Schertz is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 596 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The history of Schertz can be traced back to 1836 when two men, James and John Schertz, located a post office in what is now Schertz. The first store in Schertz was built by Mrs. Elizabeth Wistar and operated for six months before being destroyed by a storm. In 1841, Captain William Haddad surveyed a land grant that included present-day Schertz. He named the new community after his friend and fellow civilian surveyor Michael Schertz who had aided him during the Surveying Expedition of 1840-1842. Michael Schertz donated $1,000 to help finance this project. In 1865, Jno Dyer founded an oil well near present-day Pryor Creek Bridge on the Texan side of the International Border with Mexico; he named it Dyer's Wells after himself and his wife Drusilla (Dyer) Bigham Hessian PhD). In 1870s Jno Dyer erected a log cabin adjacent to today's high school which served as its first building until 1978 when it burned down in a severe thunderstorm while students were inside; that same year also saw construction of present day High School across from courthouse square commenced with Mr.(now Mrs.) Antoinette Beaumont officiating as contractor/builder

Schertz, Texas is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 31,831 at the 2010 census. Schertz is the county seat of Midland County. It was founded in 1868 and incorporated as a town in 1870. One of Schertz's nicknames is "The Pearl of the Plains". Schertz has been called "Auld Lang Syne" due to its long history of being a center for trade and commerce with surrounding counties. The area that makes up Schertz was originally part of the Neches River valley which stretched from east to west across what is now central Midland County. In 1848, when General Sam Houston crossed the Red River near present-day Schertz and moved his army into what are now Midland and Hockley Counties, he named this new region after him and his wife Anna Elizabeth Shreve (née Gillett). This name change followed Houston's victory over Mexican forces at San Jacinto on November 16, 1847; during the battle, General Houston's troops burned down two bridges over the Neches River so that Mexican forces couldn't retreat back to their capital Mexico City without heavy losses. Houston then turned his attention northward towards Austin where he found General James Fannin had successfully defended Fort Bend against an attack by Texans under Lt.-General Antonio López de Santa Anna on April 14, 1848 – thus demonstrating Texan military supremacy over Mexico throughout much of North America at this time. On July 15th 1861 during Confederate attacks along Texan soil at Harlingen and Pharrsville UT General John Buford ordered all Confederate soldiers within three miles (6 km) of any Union soldier to fall back immediately or be captured alive – thereby sparing many thousands of civilians caught between Confederate lines who would have faced certain death if they stayed put. In less than 24 hours more than 7500 men had withdrawn to safety in Union territory inside Texas behind Federal lines; however about 4000 Confederates including 300 officers were killed or captured during these proceedings which are still considered one of the bloodiest episodes in US History
Schertz is a town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Schertz is located on the banks of the Brazos River. The first settlement in Schertz was made by George Schertz and his family on December 12, 1851. George Schertz was born in Germany and immigrated to America with his parents in 1847. They settled in what is now Johnson County. In 1850 George Schertz married Anna Wheeler and they had one child, Sarah A., who died young at age two months. In 1856 Anna Schertz married John Dorman and they moved to a more permanent home near present-day McKinneyville where they lived until their death in 1907. One of Sarah A.'s sisters later became Mrs. Prentice Talbot of Greenville, TX In 1865 a post office called "Scherts" was established within present day Johnson County by Wm Henson with mail service provided by wagon trains drawn by mules over the Brazos River from Austin to San Antonio including stops at Round Rock and Seguin On November 1, 1861 Abraham Lincoln arrived at Fort Worth for his upcoming inauguration as Ulysses S Grant's Vice President and he stopped overnight at Goliad Barracks before proceeding north to Richardson for dinner with members of the Texas delegation which included futureTexas Governor Sam Houston In 1870 John Dorman built an impromptu millrace across from present day White Settlement Road (now Wilkinson Road) just east of current day camp Bowie Creek on land that would become part of Schertz when it was purchased from Mr. Dorman by Samuel Morse trustees along with other properties adjacent to Bowie Creek during an agricultural estate sale conducted August 7-10, 1870 This site provides direct evidence that early settlers used natural resources (water Buffalo grasshoppers) rather than manufactured goods (wheels & cartons) for their needs while infrastructure such as roads were not created until much later
