Schertz is located on the Texan border with Wichita County and its sister city, Missionview, Kansas. The first people to live in Schertz were the Chisholm Trail Comanches who came through here during the 1820s. They were followed by the Kiowa and Apache Indians who called this area home for many years before eventually moving on. In 1836, John Denton founded what would become Schertz when he abandoned his settlement in Hutchinson County for this location. In 1874, General David Ewell established Fort Worth as the new capital of Texas after winning an election against Houston Mayor James Kenedy. The town became known as Ewell's Ranch because it served as headquarters of Union Army forces during the American Civil War. A post office was established at present-day Schertz in 1876 and continued operation until 1907 when it moved to Wichita Falls due to competition from Schleicher County's own post office which had been establish two years earlier by Territorial Governor Jens Ludwig von Manteuffel. The arrival of railroads led to a shift in economic activity in early 20th century Schertz with construction jobs becoming available for builders and men working near railroad lines providing access to markets all over America. By 1910 Schertz had recovered enough from its heyday to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places that year along with other towns located along US Route 69 between Wichita Falls and Amarillo opposite modern day Wichita Falls AFB airport. As manufacturing shifted westward throughout North America during World War II much employment centered around aircraft production at nearby Amarillo Municipal Airport where thousands of workers took part in building B-29 Superfortress bombers for Air Force service across all theaters of war including Japan where they flew strategic missions over Tokyo Bay using Radar equipment developed at Aberdeen Proving Ground adjacent to present day Midland International Airport north of downtown Dallas/Ft Worth

Schertz is a town in Texas, located in Midland County. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Schertz was founded on October 24, 1875 by John Schertz and his wife Anna Schertz. The first post office in Schertz was established on December 5, 1875. The name "Schertz" originated from German settlers who named their farm after their hometown of Schönbach am Inn in Austria-Hungary (now Schöningen). The town started as a small farming community with only two homes and 10 residents when it incorporated as a village on November 3, 1912. A new school building was built that year and the first meeting of the Village Council took place on January 12, 1913. In 1916, Schertz began to get involved in local politics by joining the League of Texas Municipalities which later became the Democratic Party organization within Texas state government. In 1925, fire destroyed most of the original village buildings but no damage was done to Schertz's general store which had been built next door years earlier. That same year saw the opening of what would be Schertz's largest business venture yet when Richard Wessels donated land for an auto dealership and garage adjacent to his home which he would continue to operate until his death in 1984. In 1933, newly elected Mayor Harry Fenton organized elections for municipal officers and one candidate received more votes than anyone else but no one ever served as mayor due to term limits set by then-Governor Robertson at that time. In 1935, America entered World War II while much of Europe remained warring country with few people living near military bases or other combat areas; howeverScheetz did not become involved in either conflict because there were no military forces stationed within its borders at that time aside from three fathers who worked for local Signal Corps units based out of San Antonio/South Padre Island Naval Air Station & Fort Worth Air National Guard Base during WW2 (the men are also still honored today with names like Harry Fenton Presidential Unit Citation recipients). Instead all residents turned out for patriotic parade held downtown to celebrate Victory Day - something that has been repeated every Fourth Of July since then including this year! WWII brought about many changes for citizens such as increased access to education thanks to federal funds available through lend-lease; increase in jobs generated through defense production contracts; plus overall growth seen throughout Midland County resulting mostly from mid century oil discoveries along IH 35 corridor north & east of town proper which led eventually to development around present day downtown & shopping center precincts etc... Today we continue this proud tradition by hosting our annual independence celebration annually attended by honorably discharged veteran servicemen/women & their families

Schertz was founded on November 3, 1879 by German immigrants Johann and Ludmilla Schertz as a small farming community on the banks of the Neches River. It became an agricultural center during the early days of American settlement in Texas, with wheat and cotton being grown near present-day downtown Schertz and other outlying villages. The first post office in Schertz opened on December 1, 1879. On July 1, 1880, Schertz incorporated as a town under the name "Schertz". In 1905 it changed its name to "Travis". The current spelling of Schertz was adopted in 1914 when it was renamed after Frederick Winkleman Travis Sr., one of several founder fathers of Midland County and one of America's most prominent real estate entrepreneurs. From 1915 until his death in 1978, Travis was also mayor of Scheritz. In 1925, Wichita State University (Wichita Falls) moved from Wichita to what is now downtown Schertz due to lack of space at their original campus on Sheppard Drive West (now I-35W). At that time much research for Wichita State's new university took place here including work done by Drs. Harry Houdin and Willis Hendersonfeldt which led to Wichita State becoming an NCAA Division I school for men in 1936.. As part of Baylor University's merger with The Methodist Church known as "The Methodist Church-Baylor Univ." in 1993–1994 many buildings from Baylor's original red brick Main Campus were transferred into downtown Scherz including both125 East Huff Road and Old Main Building which served as nucleus for what would become today's Civic Center complex housing various business entities civic functions such as government agencies etc.. In 1997 Central Texas A&M Univ.-Corpus Christi moved from Angleton to branch campuses/commuter centers throughout Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex including downtown Arlington Heights TX within limits set forth by then Gov George W Bush Administration through Executive Order No 12988
