The first gun sights in Santa Fe were located at the Headquarters of the Santa Fe Vigilante Police Department. The first use of a sighting device on a rifle was by Captain W.J. Hill in 1892 when he used a swivel Sight to shoot at game near his home. In 1907, an observation post on Doniphan Mountain was established and32 rifles were mounted there with 4-x magnification objective lenses for sighting in targets and numerous other purposes including target practice. By 1912, the town had developed its own armory with 5 antique guns and 6 revolvers that could be fired without touching the stock. In 1916, an 8x scope and tripod mount were purchased from Buffalo Arsenal to improve shooting accuracy at longer ranges out to 100 yards using .30 caliber ammunition as well as hunting rabbits over 100 yards with 20 shot rounds from a Remington Model 870 shotgun using lead projectiles which created muzzle flip effects

The first practical use of this type of gun was in a duel between two Swiss swordsmen, fought on October 12, 1795. Johann Gutenberg produced the world's first printed book with movable type in 1455.
Santa Fe, Texas is the capital of New Mexico. The city was founded in 1847 by José de la Guerra and Mariano Castro as part of a plan to create a new Mexican state that would include El Paso and Tejas (now Oklahoma). The Santa Fe Trail followed the course of the Arkansas River through Texas, going east to west. The trail was first built in 1827 by General Antonio López de Santa Anna and his army as part of his campaign against Mexico.
