The next step in AR15 Uppers came in 1967 when Colt introduced their own design called the Colt Combat Rifle Upper Receiver (CRC). This higher quality Lower Receiver allowed people to add various features such as metal plates on top of the receivers that would increase accuracy, sighting systems such as windage and elevation adjustment (WAE), and even aftermarket stocks like A3s or MOE stocks into their rifles. These newHigher Quality Upper Receivers were then adopted by many militaries around the world before being replaced by newer models in later years. For example, when America's Vietnam War era service members came back home after leaving service in 1972 they needed something better than what they had been using before so they started producing versions of these Lower Receivers known as "A2" Upper Receivers which were designed specifically for those purpose builds instead of general use market magazines like everyone else's A1s/A2s were typically used for outside forces during that time period since most civilians wouldn't be able afford one of those level Of Equipment / Accessories typically associated with Military Grade Weapons
