Gun targets have been a part of San Marcos, Texas for over 100 years. The first target was built in 1879 by George A. Hill and his son-in-law, W.M. Allyn, on the old home of Samuel Hogg, now called “The Old Post Office”. This Target Arsenal was located at 12th and Elm Streets in San Marcos and was used to fire cannons during the Mexican-American War. In 1902, Charles Schieffer opened his owngun store at 6th and Mission streets in San Marcos which became known as the Gun Store of Champions. Schieffer offered customers a wide variety of firearms including shotguns, pistols, rifles and handguns. From 1906 until 1929, the San Marcos Rifle Club operated out of their building at 15th Street and Elm Road. This club provided shooting instruction to children from all across the city as well as hosting several tournaments each year where prizes were given away such as cars or moneybags. In 1927, Clarence Ransom opened his own gun store at 9th and Guadalupe Streets in San Marcos which became known as The Gun Shop of Champions II because it featured a more comprehensive selection of firearms than any other outlet in town at that time! Ransom offered customers an extensive gun range with both indoor and outdoor ranges; along with magazines (up to 50 rounds per magazine) for purchase or rental; he also sold ammunition direct from the manufacturer! From 1922 until 1974, The Gun Shop operated out of their property adjacent to Midland State University which served as their Shooting Range! During this time period they hosted many local rifle championships along with state matches here in Texas! In 1974 they closed down due to financial troubles but reopened shortly thereafter under new management! Since then they have continued to be a popular tourist destination for those interested in guns (and ammo) with multiple locations throughout the city!

In 1916 brothers Myron Egan and Harold Cushman started Shell Oil Company with 8 barrels per day (bpd) production and founded Refining Company #1 which refined crude oil into gasoline, kerosene and other products Incorporation took place on December 12 with Harry Waddell as Mayor

San Marcos, Texas is a small town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent residents of what is now San Marcos were Mexican soldiers who founded the town in 1835 as a military outpost on Rancho Paloma Viejo after being expelled from their holdings in neighboring Travis County. The original name for San Marcos was "Travis" because it had been given to them by General Sam Houston when he took command of the Texan army during the Alamo Campaign. On September 20, 1840, Ulysses S. Grant named San Marcos after his friend and mentor James K. Polk Sr., then President of the United States and future Governor of Texas. In 1848 an act was passed by the Republic of Mexico creatingthe state of Austin and giving it to American settlers Richard Marshall and Jesse Hogg as its first governor and territorial delegate respectively; they also founded Lamar University (later UT Austin). In 1850 US troops burned down most of downtown San Marcos while fighting anative uprising against Mexican rule; however local lore has it that one man - Wm Henson - successfully rebuilds much of downtown within weeks following this debacle. Thereafter many businesses were built near today's State Capitol Complex including two banks- First National Bank & Trust Company (founded 1865) and First Mercantile Bank (1881), which still stands on Congress Avenue west of I-10 just north of Paseo de los Rios shopping center across from YMCA Dragonbreath Arena southwest corner lot #1 east side lot #2 southwest corner lot #3 east side lot #4 northeast corner lot #5 northwest corner lots 6 through 10 comprised most parts present day unified city limits with exception lots 1 through 4 lying within current City Limits Of Austin only Lots 5 through 10 lying within present City Limits With Instrumentalities Of: Holyoke Cotton Mills Incorporated 1883 southeast boundary line between those 2 cities east boundary line between those 2 cities west boundary line between those 2 cities granted special status due to coal mines operations located thereon almost concurrent mention been made hereinabove about railroad connection thereto but no definitive proof exists
In 1836, San Marcos was founded as a small town in what is now south Texas. The town was named for General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who had been governor of Mexico during the early years of the Republic of Texas. At its peak, San Marcos had about 100 residents and a few businesses. It was located on the banks of the Nueces River, across from present-day Austin. In 1840, San Marcos became part of the Mexican state of Alvarado. In 1848, it became an independent municipality and was renamed San Marcos City. In 1861, it became a county seat and has remained so ever since.
