Aftermath: The Battle of San Marcos is one of history’s most important military engagements because it helped create Anglo-American hegemony in North America. The victory at this skirmish secured ranching rights for Americans in what is now southern Texas and ushered in a era of annexation by U.S.-Mexico conflict known as the Tejas Rebellion.
