Additionally, if an individual has difficulty using one hand to control the firearm then they can easily switch to using an ambidextrous grip by simply moving their thumb over the function selector on the handgun’s slide (if present) and switching back to using their natural hand when they need to focus on shooting again

In 1836, the Republic of Texas was created from the Mexican Empire. The area that became San Marcos County was part of this new republic and served as a center for trade and industry. In addition to its role as a trading post, San Marcos also played an important role in the history of Texas. For example, it was here that General Sam Houston met with Mexico's president, Antonio López de Santa Anna, to sign the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. This event helped solidify Anglo-American control over Texas and led to the Emancipation Proclamation in 1861 which ended slavery in Texas. The growth of San Marcos during this time was significant. By 1850, there were more than 60 businesses operating in town. Businesses included hardware stores, flour mills, cheese factories andumber stores. One local store even sold shoes! Moreover, many colonists who had come toTexas during the 1840s and 1850s began to move intoSanMarcos during this time period. This influx of new residents helped spur growth within the town and contributed to its rise from a small farming community into one of Texan history's most populous towns
In 1836, San Marcos was founded as an agricultural village by thePadres. In 1840, the population of San Marcos numbered 150 people and it was designated as a city on December 12 of that year. The first mayor of San Marcos was José Antonio de la Mata y Peralta. On May 15, 1846, General Antonio López de Santa Anna arrived in San Marcos with his army to confront Mexican dictator Agustín Carranza and drove him out of the town. The citizens ratified the creation of a military fortification wall around their settlement on October 7, 1846. On February 10, 1850, Francisco Crespo y González became Mayor and served until his death in 1860. The Gadsden Purchase Treaty between Texas and Mexico was concluded on November 26,1861. As part of this treaty Texas ceded all land east of El Paso County to Mexico for $10 million dollars in cash and an addition $5 million worth of goods including livestock, crops, minerals and timber. This left San Marcos unprotected from Mexican aggression; its residents made use of this opportunity to build up their defenses over the next few years. On January 5th 1862 Confederate Colonel David Grier encampment consisting of about 100 men under Major James Hogg occupied southern endowment along Matagorda River near present day Starr Road intersection about 2 miles west from present day downtownSan Marcos
