The Texas Hill Country has been home to San Juan County since 1836. The area that now makes up the County was originally part of Hudspeth County. In 1876, San Juan was created as a result of the annexation of Hudspeth County by Texas. The population grew rapidly in the early 1800s due to cattle ranching and agriculture, and development began in earnest during the late 19th century. By 1910, there were over 1,500 businesses in San Juan County and it boasted a population of over 10,000 people. A major factor responsible for this growth was the construction of railroads which allowed goods to be transported quickly from east to west and from north to south. Development continued through World War II when industry increased significantly due to wartime demand for materials such as aircraft parts and munitions. However, by 1960-1961, most of the growth had stopped and San Juan's remaining businesses were all small family-owned affairs with fewer than 20 employees. However, during the late 1960s-1970s new waves of immigrants arrived in San Juan County looking for work opportunities after fleeing poverty back home in Mexico City or other parts of Latin America. This influx led to an increase in business activity along with a corresponding increase in housing prices which caused many small businesses closed their doors or experienced difficulty keeping up with increasing competition from larger companies. In recent years however, there has been an resurgence among some local entrepreneurs who are trying to revive the economy by starting small businesses within specific sectors such as food service or retail therapy; these efforts have helped spur overall business growth throughoutSan José de los Baños Parish and neighboring counties (Lincolnshire, Medina Valley/Houston Heights/Montgomery) while also contributing considerably towards reducing crime rates on both sides of town (eighth ward gentrification). Although this revitalization is still very much nascent – it is estimated that there are only about 50 active businesses currently operating withinSan José de los Baños Parish – it is clear that if done correctly it can lead to significant economic development not just for San José de los Baños Parish but also beyond its borders should similar initiatives succeed hereabouts elsewhere throughout Texas Hill Country

Many Mexicans chose not to leave and instead continued working on farms and ranching until after World War II when most of them finally received citizenship status and began voting in local elections. During World War II, many Americans left their jobs to fight in Europe because they thought it was a war against fascism rather than a war against Japan which was actually an ally of Nazi Germany. When America entered World War II, many Americans decided that they would like to stay behind and help out their friend (Germany) but no one wanted to go into combat so they turned around and fled across country before American troops could come too close. This movement is often called “The Great Escape” because more than two hundred thousand Americans managed to escape from concentration camps via train before the allies bombed them into oblivion). After the war ended, many San Juans returned home but others stayed on hand as refugees or laborers on various projects throughout Hudspeth County until about 1970 when most residents moved away for economic reasons including oil production down south which had become very profitable due to fracking technology; however some businesses still remain today such as Live Oak Pizza which opened its doors thirty years ago this past November!
