In 1911, SANJUAN TEXAS GUN MAGAZINE merged with HORNED BEAR MAGAZINE to form SANJUAN HORNED BEAR MAGAZINE INC., which continues to publish today.
San Juan County is located in the southwestern corner of Texas and is bordered by Austin, Lubbock, and Midland Counties. The population was estimated to be over 151,000 in 2010. The county seat is San Antonio. The first Europeans to visit San Juan were Spanish explorers who sighted the island in 1521 while exploring the Texas coast. In 1847, Mexico acquired land west of San Juan for a new military fortification called Presidio de Santiago de Cuba. Mexican settlers arrived during the 1850s and 1860s and built small villages on the island until they were replaced by American settlers in 1881. As a result of its location on the border between two countries, San Juan was an important stop for stagecoaches that traveled from California to New Orleans and points north during the 1840s-1850s; as well as for cattle drives that transported goods down Rio Grande Valley during the 1850s-1860s. In 1892, Congress approved a bill creating San Juan County along with Lubbock County (east) and Midland County (west) within Texas’ newly created system of county government. As part of this legislation, San José del Rio Creek was named one of five creeks within Texan limits which would become eligible for capital improvements funding under then- Proposition 61. The creek had been used as an animal watering area by Mission Santa Isabel before it became available for human settlement in 1870; however, little development occurred until after local citizens petitioned Santa Fe Railway officials to improve access to water supplies near present-day Interstate Highway 10/US 281 east of town in 1924 when agricultural production began booming on nearby Hill Country hamlets adjacent to Presidio de Santiago de Cuba National Monument . By 1930 nearly all residents living on or around Presidio de Santiago had left for various reasons including World War II; but even today there are about fifty people residing at presidious san juan national Historic Site . On October 15th of that year, Mexico City honored Villa by naming a avenue after him in honor of his victory over American forces at Monterrey Station on July 20th that year. In 1925, San Juan School District #1 erected its first school building which still stands today within the boundaries of present day White Sands High School. In 1927-1928 new schools were built within district boundaries including Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic School which is now known as Ysleta Intermediate School; Trinity Episcopal Church which is now known as First United Methodist Church; and Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church which is now known as Stonington Presbyterian Church Building #2 9500 EAST STREET SAN JUAN TEXAS 77001
