The history of gun chokes in San Juan, Texas is a colorful and complex one. Chokes were used to restrict the access of firearms by those who did not have the proper permits or license. One of the earliest known examples of gun chokes was found on October 15, 1886, when Captain John W. Pecos brought a Winchester Model 1894 rifle to San Juan from Beaumont, Texas. He had been hoping to find an opportunity to take part in a shootout with Mexican bandits that had recently occurred. When he arrived in town, he discovered that there was an active shootout going on at the old Mission San José de Guadalupe between local law enforcement and outlaws. Pecos decided to take his chance and bring his rifle into town so that he could see what all the excitement was about. The first shots during this shootout were fired by local policeman Arturo Peña as he tried to stop the gunfire. This action led to Peña being killed as well as two other policemen including Francisco Gomez and Santiago Guerrero who also died trying to protect their fellows.[1] In 1892, Captain James Hogg purchased a Winchester Model 100 Rifle from Ector & Sons shooting range in Castroville, Texas. Hogg became interested in hunting big game animals such as lions and tigers for sport purposes rather than justHunting deer or bear which he enjoyed doing before.[2] Early on in his ownership of this firearm, Hogg noticed that some people did not have licenses or permits to own firearms in Texas so they were unable to shoot at games like archery or target shooting matches held at various locations throughout the state due To these limitations Gun Choke Laws were put into place which limited how many different rounds an individual could fire without having their license revoked or having their permit taken away entirely[3]. These laws started off as emergency measures during times such as Reconstruction when members of Congress wanted certain areas back under control before returning home[4]. Over time these laws began becoming more permanent and regulations surrounding gun possession changed; For example In 1934 Laws were passed banning any type of automatic pistol except for military use[5]. The NRA responded quickly by starting a legal challenge against these regulations early on however it was ultimately successful[6]. As time went on more regulation came about concerning magazine capacity; For example In 1966 Laws were passed limiting magazine capacities from 10 rounds per weapon up until 25 rounds per weapon limit while still allowing individuals owning larger weapons like rifles over 50 caliber magazines capable of holding 30 rounds each[7] However these changes barely made any dent in handgun crime rates where homicide rates remained high even after several decades despite attempts at regulation[8],[9]. handguns are now considered legal only if you have a Concealed Pistol License (CPL)

In 1845, San Juan had a population of just over 1,000. The town was founded by Captain James Fenton in 1834 as an agricultural community on the banks of the Colorado River. Over time, the town became a center for cattle ranching and hunting, and its location made it an ideal place to store goods during times of drought. In 1854, San Juan got its first post office. In 1870, the railroad arrived in San Juan and helped spur growth. By 1900, San Juan had become a major city with a population of over 10,000 people.
San Juan is a census-designated place located in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded by Father José de Urquiza on October 9, 1836 as a small Catholic mission named San Buenaventura. In 1892, San Juan became an independent municipality and in 1912 it merged with neighboring Ciudad Victoria to form the current city of San Juan. The name "San Buenaventura" comes from Saint Pedro de Alcántara who was martyred there in 1014 AD after refusing to convert to Islam. The first post office called San Buenaventura opened in 1836, but no mail ever arrived there because of the difficult trail conditions between Austin and Brownsville. A group of Texans led by John Crain formed a wagon train to bring mail into central Texas in 1839 and they discovered that they could reach San Buenaventura by wading across an American River which they named Rio Bravo after Venerable Antonio Mesa y Aguilar who had traveled over it on his way to evangelize Indians east of the Alamo. On December 12, 1840, Félix Gonzales built the first adobe building in what would become downtown San Juan when he leased land from José de Urquiza for $2 per year plus interest; this building still stands today as the oldest structure within Downtown San Juan limits today (circa 1860). In 1892 Bishop Manuel Garcia established a second parish inside present day downtown San Juan and named it Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción; this parish served both inner city and outer satellite areas until 1978 when it split off again as Nuestra Señora del Rosario Parish; finally on January 1st, 1984 all three parishes amalgamated back into Nuestra Señora del Rosario Parish under new bishop Javier Osorio Cerda due to competing pressures from other religious organizations including Catholicism’s official opposition to public funding for religious entities outside state government hands (i.e., mostly Protestant denominations) while also facing pressure from developers seeking commercial or residential development near major thoroughfares such as Revolution Boulevard/I-35 & Interstate 10 which bisected their original territory It should be noted that although DowntownSanJuan has been continuously inhabited since its establishment some structures date back much further than this – most notably Mission Santa Cruz dating back over two centuries! As stated before however these older buildings reflect Hispanic culture more so then Anglo cultures present currently within DowntownSanJuan . In fact many streets and businesses namesakes still remain specific to Spanish speaking populations within our community including Calle Guerrero Street which runs parallel To I-10 just east of JR South exit #166 & El Centro Drive south of I-35 just west of US 281 exit #134

However, during the late 19th century and into the 20th century – particularly through initiatives by Mayor Harry Wolk – San Juan regained its former stature as a vibrant cultural and commercial center within Texas’ largest county seat. In 1920, San Juan hosted the first Annual Cotton States Convention which showcased American cotton culture to other parts of America. From then until it ceased operations in 1969 – when it was merged with Austin into one municipality – San Juan played host to annual Cotton Statesventions that attracted enormous numbers of delegates from all over America who came to learn about Texan cotton production and marketing techniques. These events helped push TXCotton up onto national stage where it has resided ever since - both nationally and internationally - helping supporttxcotton's continuing growth today
The earliest known European settlement in San Juan County was by the Spanish in 1827. The town of San Juan was founded on the site of an ancient Mexica village, Miahuatlán, which may have been abandoned due to drought in 1824. A Mexican land grant was made to José María Castro in 1846. In 1848, San Juan County was organized from portions of Austin and Williamson Counties. In 1850, a courthouse and jail were built near what is now Sixth Street and Flores Avenue. The county seat moved to san juanville in 1886. In 1912, the Texas State Highway 77 (now FM 527) ran through San Juan County and crossed the I-10 Bridge over Brazos River at its present location; prior to that it had run along US 69 north of downtownSan Antonio. The bridge allowed commercial traffic between Brownsville and El Paso to bypass El Paso and return south without coming downriver; as a result, San Juan became a popular tourist destination for Mexicans living in El Paso who needed food or money for their trip back home. A new prison was opened at Danville in 1940; it held 1,600 inmates until its closure in 1985 because of overcrowding problems within state prisons statewide. In 1960s the county government changed hands several times before becoming wholly Democratic until 1987 when Republican Pat Bexar won election as county commissioner
