On October 30th 1959 its name changed from Jiménez Township to SanBenito Township after being chosen for its agricultural potential by voters who approved a resolution creating an all-municipal election for township trustees with responsibility for everything from water supply and paving streets to zoning laws and fire prevention measures. The first post office opened in 1926; mail service continued until 1942 when train service ended due to World War II bombings. The last mail delivery happened on November 3rd 1945 when Village Trustee Pedro Morales deliveredmail from one house on Dogpatch Road to another house off Highway 10 near Mission Creek Parkway just outside OficinaSanta Fe Elementary School property line; this was also his final act as Village trustee before he passed away in 1984 at age 94 years old.
