The Texas Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1881. It became the San Benito Rifle and Pistol Club in 1911. In 1932 it changed its name to the Texas Gun Clubs Inc.

San Benito is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Antonio–Bexar Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a cattle ranch on what is now the west side of I-25 and US 281. The original name for the town was "Hacienda de la Esperanza." In 1892, José Gomez landed his cow on the east side of I-25 and started to grow crops there. By 1901, Gomez had built a log cabin and named it San Benito after St. Benedict Abbey in Italy where he was born in 1855. In 1907, John Sager arrived from Iowa with his family and set up camp on what would become Main Street. He claims to have named it San Benito because he saw a star out West that looked like an angel's wing. In 1925, Jack Welch took over ownership of Texaco and decided to move its refinery into the new town site on I-10 about two miles south of present day SanBenito Creek Rd., which became known as "Welch's Corner." At first, Welch used only local water but when Enron robber Roy Clark threatened him with violence over prices at his refinery pumpskins, Welch leased land north of La Cantera Dam to build an oil refinery using advanced technology then unknown in America (the first ever). When Enron went bankrupt in 2001, Welch sold all but 2 percent interest inTexaco Inc.—the remaining stock being divided between ChevronTexaco Corporation and ExxonMobil Corporation—to lead private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., who renamed it Energy Industries Holdings Incorporated (EHI). EHI merged with Mobil Corp., which had been formed from Gulf Oil Corp.'s assets after its buyout by ConocoPhillips Corporation (COP) in 2002, to form BP Plc., one of the world's largest oil exploration companies On November 3rd 2009 residents voted down Proposition 7A which would have raised property taxes by 6% for eight years starting January 1st 2020; however this did not stop city leaders from considering other ways to fund infrastructure projects such as resurfacing streets or building new roads downtown including possible annexation into neighboring jurisdictions such as League City or Lubbock should their request be approved by voters next year The history of San Benito has been tightly bound together by three generations of families that live here: The Sanchez’s moved here when they were kids because their dad wanted them close to everything; mom worked nights so her kids could go school during free periods; Dad managed the Ranchero until we bought our house 25 years ago; Mom still works late every night so her kids can go play sports out there; youngest generation: We are sisters married 10 years now - oldest is almost 21 – we’ve been raising our own kids since she turned 16 . The town of San Benito, Texas was founded by the brothers Quanah and Manuel Ortiz in 1836. The area that is now San Benito was part of the Texas missions system and, after independence was granted to the United States in 1836, the Mexican government began granting land grants to American citizens. In 1846, a group of colonists under the leadership of John Hance formed a new settlement at what is now Alpine Village on Rancho Rinconada. On November 13, 1846, they adopted the name "San Benito" after receiving an anonymous donation of land from a Spanish settler named Miguel de SanBenito. The mission system was dissolved in 1848 and all remaining friars left Mexico for America. After Mexican Independence was achieved in 1821, Anglo Americans began arriving in numbers as Hispanics increasingly became dominant within their social groups. By 1840, there were over 1,500 Anglo Americans living in San Benito County.
