When America gained its independence from Spain in 1781, it claimed all but six (Albuquerque, New Mexico; Tucson; El Paso; Rio Grande del Norte; and Monterrey) of Monterey County including San Antonio which became part of modern-day Texas on February 2nd 1850.[2][3] On October 30th 1860,[4] American Commodore John Doolittle's squadron led by Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter attacked USS Constitution off Point Comfort while HMS Guerriero stood by watching[]—this attack was considered one Of The Most Significant Naval Actions Of World War I[]—and mail service between Galveston and Brownsville was begun for the first time that day[5] In 1865 Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House north of Petersburg Va., ending American Civil War with over 100 000 casualties including almost 4000 killed [] In 1870 Spanish Governor Manuel Micheltorena ceded all but portionsof Galveston Islandto US authorities for use asttaiport for munitions shipments [] On December 12th 1870 Immigrant José Sabino Moreno fraught ashore with his family on Beneche Islandin Matagorda Bay (). They were attached to a barrel using a ring or screwdriver, allowing the shooter to rotate the weapon 360 degrees around its axis. This gave the user an extra degree of freedom when aiming. This gave shooters more control over their weapons, which was especially beneficial for sniper rifles and other high-altitude operations. The City of San Antonio, Texas was founded by visionary Spaniards in 1834. The city quickly became a center of commerce and culture as it thrived as the capital of Alamo Parish. In 1836, San Antonio was sacked by Mexican forces and then annexed by Mexico. On October 16, 1839, American Commodore Stephen Hogg landed his USS Constitution at the Port of San Antonio to begin exploration of the Southwest Coast. A few weeks later he sailed upriver to explore what lay beyond the Brazos River. He named this new location “San Antonio” after General Santa Anna’s aborted invasion of Texas in 1835. The first white settlers arrived in San Antonio in 1840 and soon established a thriving business district around what is now Plaza de Armas. In 1850, President James Kenedy ordered Lieutenant Colonel Jameson Pearce to take command of an army expedition against Presidio Heights on the southern edge of town. Pearce successful defended these heights and repulsed Mexican assault but was killed during the engagement. This event helped spark Anglo-American settler migration to San Antonio from all over South Texas beginning in earnest. By 1860, there were more than 1,000 people living in San Antoniansphere alone! In 1861–1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell attacked Fort Hood near present day downtownSan Antonio with overwhelming force seekingageable objectives such as ammunition for his siege engines and artillery pieces positioned along Worth Road east of town (now Congress Avenue). After several days engagements culminating with a Union victory that regained control over Fort Hood and its batteries overlooking downtownSanAntonio – Ewell withdrew back into Austin without further losses while his forces burned down Fort Hood’s remaining buildings (now part of University Park). The Battle also served as a turning point for American Major General Nelson Miles who had been leading an Armyof occupation mission throughout Central America since February 1861 when he took command from Major General John Custer at Monterrey following Ulysses S Grant’s withdrawal from Mexico City following Baca’s coup d’etat.) At long last Americans were within striking distance across three states – including right next door –of Mexico! Following the war general Reconstruction began across the United States which included law enforcement improvements such as building state police agencies; providing education for freedmen; creating public works projects like streetcar lines and water systems; granting voting rights to African Americans; and creating local government entities such as school districts etcetera.. In SanAntonianoctober 20th century citizens eagerly anticipated promises made during Waco Siege & Branch Davidian standoff thru political appointees like Mayor Richard Mabry & Commissioners Vince Edwards & Donny Hill) only to see City slowly crumble amidst graft Probe led by current SDSA Mayor Ron Nirenberg) shortly before Statehood Day on November 6th 2009
