In 1881, San Angelo was founded as a small ranch town on the banks of the Trinity River. The town quickly became an important center for cattle and rifle exports from Texas. In 1903, the Texas Legislature passed a bill that provided for the construction of a new school in San Angelo. The school was built on what is now First Street and Holcombe Road. The original building still stands and is used as a museum today. The growth of San Angelo over the years has impacted many aspects of its culture and history.
