San Angelo is a small town located in Hardin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-The Sixth-largest metropolitan area in Texas. In 1850, the First Methodist Episcopal Church was built on Main Street and it remained an active church until 1925. In 1860, General William Tubb's cavalry brigade set up camp near San Angelo and became known as "Tubb's Brigade." On October 10 of that year, General Tubb ordered his brigade to attack the Mexican force under Santa Anna which resulted in a victory at Palo Alto hill. In 1865 Tubb's brigade moved into Hardin County and Battle Creek Station was established as their new headquarters. When America entered World War II, San Angelo formed Bombardment Squadron No 4 Squadron (Beautiful) 1942-1945 out of Officers' Training School cadets from nearby Alpine Air Force Base!
