San Angelo, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded on April 14, 1845 by John Bird and his wife Anna Coulter as a post office and trading center for cattle drives from Fort Worth and other towns in Hudspeth County. As the county seat of Hudspeth County, San Angelo grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its agricultural potential and its location on the Butterfield Overland Trail which linked Mexico City with San Antonio. By 1900, San Angelo had become one of the most important cotton and cattle markets in the Southwest. Ashington Elementary School is SanAngelo's only schoolchildren are taught here from pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade; it opened in 1965 when local officials decided that all public schools would be consolidated into one building within five years. In 2002–2003, Anheuser Busch donated $5 million to create an Urban Agriculture Center which will provide access to organic produce from local farmers throughout Austin and surrounding counties; it also includes a greenhouse for growing fruits, vegetables, flowers, etc., as well as an education/recreational center for students grades K-12. In 2006–2007 – following passage of state law allowing consolidation of public schools into large buildings – Anheuser Busch donated $10 million to build two new high school campuses: One in north san antoi (the old Gilmer School) will serve grades 9-12 while another adjacent to Interstate 20 will serve grades 7-8; both campuses were designed by renowned architect Philip Johnson who has designed some of America's most famous universities including Yale University (New Haven), Princeton University (Princeton), Columbia University (New York City), Harvard University ( Cambridge), and MIT (Cambridge). The total cost of these two sports complexes - now known as McKalla Place Stadiums - was almost $160 million dollars! These new campuses will house more than 2,000 students each! A park called Campus Park has been created adjacent to both stadiums which will include soccer fields/races/parking lots for student use; it was funded by a donation from Motorola Incorporated who built their corporate headquarters nearby. In addition to athletics there are also many music programs offered through various agencies such as First Baptist Church & High School Band program offered through Trinity Episcopal Church sponsored youth orchestra program run by Presbyterian church youth group outreach arm first united Methodist church .
