Saginaw is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–New Braunfels metropolitan area. Saginaw is located on the eastern edge of Midland County and within Williamson County. The community was named for John Saginaw, who had bought land here in 1874. The first post office in Saginaw opened in 1876. A general store and school were built soon after on what are now Main Street and Sherman Avenue. In 1906, a railroad depot was built blocks east of the present day plaza on State Avenue near US Highway 67 (now FM 529). In 1915, Saginaw incorporated as a village under proscription by the state legislature because it could not agree to allow liquor sales within its limits; but liquor shipments continued until 1919 when prohibition was repealed nationwide by Ulysses S. Grant's Executive Order 923. As early as 1909 there had been plans to build a water tower adjacent to US Route 67 south of town; this never materialized however plan called for an "enormous water tank" that would have spanned Third Street between Maple and Elm Streets The plat for this project was filed with Midland County Recorder's Office on December 14th 1909 It appears that this plans never came to fruition however an interesting development took place during World War II when many local citizens decided they wanted to help feed Europe through giving goods such as canned goods etc which they had acquired while supplies were scarce back home
