Gun targets have been an important part of the history of Saginaw, Texas for many years. The first target was created in 1868 by a local farmer, Alpheus D. Cook. Cook made a small platform out of earth and wood that he set up at the edge of his property. He called it "The Turk's Head" because it resembled a Turkish headdress. The first shooting contest held in Saginaw was on November 10, 1876. The event was organized by Mayor Jules Pogue and featured two teams from different cities competing against each other to shoot the largest target possible. In 1886, Rifleman John Aiken erected what is now known as "Fenway Park". Famed rifleman Winfield Scott also shot at Fenway Park during this time. In 1907, Saginaw hosted its own international exposition which included targets on three separate occasions; one located in front of the old city hall, another at Midland Avenue and Third Street, and finally at Smith & Wesson Tower on Elm Street. In 1927, Gunnery Sgt Leroy Barnes founded the NRA's Southern Michigan Branch Office here in Saginaw with the goal of promoting gun safety education through NRA-sponsored sporting events throughout our region. This office has continued to grow into today as one of Middletown’s most influential civic organizations!

Saginaw was founded in 1836 by the Michigan brothers, Jonas and David Saginaw. The community was named for the Sabine River which bisected the area. It grew rapidly during the years of its namesake's ownership, and by 1853 had a population of 1,500 people. By 1870, Saginaw had reached a population of 10,000 people and became an important stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1881, the city lost its charter due to financial problems and it fell into disrepair. However, in 1902 it regained its charter and grew even faster as a result of new business opportunities opened up in nearby Flint. Today, Saginaw is one of Michigan's most prosperous cities with a population of over 120,000 people.
Saginaw is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Saginaw County. The population was 54,045 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Flint–Detroit metropolitan area. The name "Saginaw" is Creek word meaning "big water." The first European to visit what is now Saginaw was French explorer Jacques Marquette in 1696. In 1701, Englishman John Stevens explored this region and named it after his hometown, Southampton in England (now Portsmouth). In 1821, Saginaw became a county within Michigan Territory when it was organized from parts of Kalamazoo County and Muskegon County. The community that grew up around Saginaw River had its start as a result of the opening of the Detroit-Windsor Railroad in 1849. This railroad connected Detroit with Grand Rapids; however, because no town could be built on either side of the tracks, people began to settle on opposite banks of the river near where it flows into Lake Huron - what is today known as downtown Saginaw and east side streets such as Hudson Avenue and Elm Street were developed between 1851 and 1860 by settlers who wanted to find an open space on which to build their homes without fear of being blockaded by other towns on either bank or along the river itself. In 1871, when Lansingburgh City was founded west of downtown Detroit through land acquired from farmers near Wixom for $1 per acre (the equivalent price at that time), residents voted to rename themselves Lansingburgh City despite protests from local officials who felt they had been given too much land for nothing and would become another dependency upon Detroit. When Lansingburgh City annexed adjacent unincorporated territory including most of what is now Midland Township in 1916, residents still objected to becoming partofLansingburghCity proper until they were overruled by voters there in a referendum prior to its annexation into Midland Township later that year
