Saginaw is a city located in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,909 at the 2010 census. As of the 2015 American Community Survey, the population was 2,624. The original name of Saginaw was "Natchez." The city was founded by white settlers in 1836 as Nacogdoches. They named it after Genesee County seat of Nacogdoches, Louisiana. When the Republic of Texas became an independent nation in 1845, Saginaw became its capital and remained so until 1867 when Austin took up residence there. In 1861 during the American Civil War, General James Kenedy's army camped near Saginaw on White River to prevent Confederate forces from resupplying their troops while they besieged Dallas. On July 24th & 25th 1861 Union soldiers burned down a cotton gin and storehouse owned by John Hargrave in what is now called Byers Street just south of downtown Saginaw; this event is generally considered to be the start of the Battle of Fort Worth on August 6th 1861 which ended with Confederate victory at that point. After Texas seceded from the US in 1865 and began to form its own government under President Andrew Johnson, Saginaw reverted back to Mexico City as its capital effective November 3rd 1865 following a US war-time decision by Johnson not to recognize Mexican independence because he believed that such an event would lead to another civil war within America itself (the Mexican-American War had already started). In 1872 voters re-amended their charter giving them more autonomy and renamed themselves "Sagittarius" after one of Earth's planets (this name wasn't used again until 1907). The primary economic activity during this time period centered around farm production although some businesses did open up including a bank and Lumber Company (now part of JB Hunt). A fire destroyed most OF Sagittarius' buildings on December 12th 1902 but thanks to donations from citizens many new ones were built including: Main Library - completed 1903; Tribune Building Annex - completed 1905; Masonic Temple - finished 1909; Masonic Hall - finished 1912; Post Office - completed 1916 In 1907 local businessmen organized what would become known as "The Rotary Club", which helped spur development along Elm Street between Wabash Street and Patton Avenue into what is now Downtown Saginaw. Many banks also opened up during this time including First National Bank (now Wells Fargo) and Peoples National Bank (now HSBC). Downtown business district growth continued through World War II with increased demand for housing resulting in extensive construction projects such as Dodge House on Gratiot Avenue between Elm and Patton Streets being built at a costof $5 million dollars ($ 100 million today). This project included creating over 5 blocks long with over 100 stores/condos/apartments containing over 200 apartments total

Saginaw, Texas is a town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 997 at the 2000 census. Saginaw is the county seat of Webb County. It lies on the right bank of the Neches River and was founded by General David Fannin in 1836 as a trading post on the Red River. The first settlers were white men from Kentucky who came to try to get rich through trading with Indians and taking land for themselves. They named their new town after Saginaw, Michigan—the location of their old home state's capital city—but it didn't take long for people in this new settlement to realize that they needed an important trade port if they were going to succeed in making money from their products. So they built a wharf and started shipping goods all over the world. In 1854, Saginaw became part of the Republic of Texas when that state seceded from Mexico; it continued to be its official name until 1907 when it changed back to Webb County after being annexed by Dallas County. In 1907, it also became one of the first towns in Dallas County when that county was organized. The current mayor is Joe Buscaglia (D). The town hall is located on Main Street which runs parallel to US-69 just east of downtown Saginaw (the original name for what is now Downtown Saginaw). It dates back to 1909 and has been used as both a schoolhouse and municipal meeting place throughout its history.
In 1871, Saginaw was founded as a town by settlers from Detroit. In 1907, it became the seat of Tarrant County, Texas. The city annexed portions of Dallas in 1978 and Fort Worth in 1990.
