Saginaw, Texas is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Midland County. The Saginaw River forms the municipal border with Midland County to the east and north. The area that now makes up Saginaw was first settled by Scots-Irish in 1836 as part of the Louisiana Purchase from France. In 1867, whenMidland County was created from portions of Archer and Montague Counties, Saginaw became its county seat and remained so until 1903. The current courthouse building was built in 1906 and replaced an earlier structure that had been destroyed by a natural disaster in 1906. Race rioting began in Saginaw on one occasion following an altercation between two groups of Mexicans and white residents during Business Day parade celebrations; these incidents helped lead to integration into American society for most Latinos living in central Michigan at that time. After World War II ended, many Americans returned home to find their towns and villages being ripped apart by development projects - such as Interstate 675 running through town blocks - while they were left behind without job or housing opportunities or any say whatsoever about how their communities would be developed or managed. Saginaw, Texas is a city located in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 579 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Midland County. Saginaw was founded in 1836 by Genesee and Ottawa Indian tribes as a trading post on the east side of the Kocky River. The name "Saginaw" comes from the Ojibwe wordsawin meaning "a place where buffalo are killed." In 1839, Saginaw became an independent Republic under Mexican leadership after Anglo settlers drove out the Mexicans. In 1845, following Mexico's defeat by American General Zachary Taylor in the Mexican-American War, San Jacinto (now Austin) became the new capital of Mexico and Saginaw became its second capital. In 1850, when America gained independence from Mexico and San Jacinto reverted to Texan control, Saginaw become its third capital. The first town council was organized in Saginaw on December 12th, 1836 by Elisha Bogue with nine residents voting to form a town government; these were followed by five more towns councils before it was finally decided that Saginaw would be its own county on July 1st of that year. On October 10th of that year commissioners were elected to serve one four-year term each with no term limits so long as they continued to meet monthly; this system continued until 1840 when commissioners were re-elected every two years with no limit to their service time except for death or incapacity which disqualified them for office for six months. In 1840s there were three major events which led to changes within Saginaw: First there was an influx of white men seeking land south of Houston due to problems with Native Americans who claimed portions of East Texas; this led to competition between whites and Indians over land boundaries; secondly Methodist missionaries started preaching in what had been Indian Territory (the area now included within Midland County); this increased tensions between white men and natives leading eventually to violence; finally African Americans began working as laborers on cattle ranches north of Houston so increasing numbers of black people moved into what had beenIndian Territory - making it one of the most racially mixed areas in America at that time
The city of Saginaw, Texas was founded on the banks of the San Jacinto River in 1836 by General Sam Houston. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the railroad and cattle trails. In 1881, Saginaw became an incorporated municipality and in 1907 it became a city.
