Sachse, Texas is a small town located in Medina County, Texas, United States. It was founded by German immigrants in 1879. Sachse is the only municipality in Medina County and the county seat of Medina County. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Sachse was Wilhelm Freytag who arrived on July 3, 1879. He erected a log cabin on what is now South Main Street. In 1886, Heinrich Weismann moved to Sachse and took up a homestead on present day east side of North Main Street near where Broadway meets US Highway 287 today. On December 12, 1886, they married Eliza Pohlman from Wiehl am Rhein (near Cologne). Wilhelm Freytag died on October 15th 1889 and Eliza Pohlman gave birth to their first child: Wilhelm Julius Weismann on November 2nd 1890 at her home west of South Main Street near present day East High School campus. They had two more children before she died giving birth to another son: Eduard Weismann on May 10th 1893 which also resulted in his becoming an American citizen. Both Eliza Pohlman and Eduard Weismann were buried at the old Wiehl am Rhein Cemetery until 1906 when their bodies were exhumed and interred at Elmwood Cemetery just north of downtown Sachse along with other members of their family including Eliza's mother Johanna Kappeler-Freytag (nee Schering) as well as Friedrich Schering's wife Martha Anna Schering (nee Hirschfeld). That same year also saw the opening of Schießheim Park which housed a ball ground used by local high school athletes from public schools until it closed its doors circa 1990 however some artifacts from that time remain extant including an iron fence around the baseball diamond which still stands today behind East High School Campus; furthermore there are several large tree roots still visible within sight of both buildings today situated approximately midway between First Avenue south and Elmwood Cemetery east boundary line while Third Avenue north boundary line lies just beyond that point across Ulysses S Grant Drive/SR 7 intersection currently occupied by Red Lobster restaurant parking lot
Sachse was founded by Abraham Sachse in 1841. In 1921, it became a city and in 1954, it became a county seat.
