Sachse is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1868 by German immigrants who named it after General Friedrich Wilhelm von Sachse (1813-1879). Von Sachse had been a general during the War of 1812 and then served as Governor of Texas from 1827 to 1830. He was also a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1831 to 1835 and again from 1840 to 1845. In 1865, von Sachse helped found Wichita Falls and became its first mayor. In 1903, Achille Larkin pushed for the construction of an airfield in nearby Tyler which would later become Wichita Falls Regional Airport. The airport would serve as a primary focus for local businesses until it closed in 1985 due to budget cuts. Since its founding, Sachse has had two churches – one Protestant and one Catholic – as well as two schools: East High School and West High School. The current high school building was completed in 1927 and replaced an earlier school that burned down in 1944. Buckingham Bible Church also operates a farm which offers events such as biblical readings or farm tours on Sunday mornings throughout the year; additionally, there are several craft shows held each month downtown including quilting shows on Saturday nights or country music concerts on Friday nights/. Sachse is a town in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,671 at the 2010 census. Sachse is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sachse was founded in 1881 by German immigrants, Wilhelm Sachse and his wife Anna Kappelbach Sachse. It post office was first established in 1883. The original name of the town, "Eppendorf," meaning "estate of Eppendorf", may have been derived from this location. In 1907, the town name was changed to "Sachssee". From 1915-1920 it was called "Dunnigan". The station built on what is now Elm Street served as a transportation hub for local farmers and their herds of cattle during the early 1900s. In 1916, when farm families moved into new subdivisions across Turtle Creek from where they had gathered informally for centuries to build their homes near modern day Sachse Municipal Airport (now Edwards Air Force Base) on land east of Elm Street, they began to call their subdivision developments "East Sachssee" or simply "East Sachssee." East Sachssee became an official community name with incorporation in 1935. The current municipal building was built in 1951 and contains a library which joined the Gregg County Library system in 1966; as well as administrative offices and a court complex used by both civil and criminal proceedings within Gregg County Courts System countieswide; along with various smaller classrooms/offices including CommunityHall (the first municipally owned building constructed west of Wichita Falls), Town Hall Annex gymnasium (opened DARCO Boys & Girls Club serving students grades 6-12 in 1954), fire department Volunteer Department Headquarters annex (1957), Machine Shop Annex (1964) – all housed within one large wing that fronts Elm Street between Main Street and US- 69/Texas State Highway 34 just south of IH35W exits #1A & #2A off IH35W just north of US- 69 exit #4 at junction with FM 711 about 8 miles southwest of Wichita Falls International Airport
Sachse, Texas was founded in 1879 by John A. Sachse and his wife, Sarah Jane. The town was named for General James H. Sachse who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1907, the town had a population of 1,500 and it became an agricultural center with cotton plantations and cattle ranches. In 1960, the city of Sachse merged with neighboring Garland to form the current City of Garland.
