Sachse, Texas is a city in and the county seat of Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 106 at the 2010 census. The city was founded by John Sachse in 1849 as a result of the construction of the Santa Fe Railroad through what is now Bastrop County. Sachse had been working for the railroad company as an engineer and surveyor when he decided to settle in what would become his original town site. In 1851, he named his new town after General James K. Polk during his Ulysses S. Grant presidency, which may have been inspired by Polk's visit to Bastrop County in 1848. By 1860, Sachse had developed a large cotton gin complex on White Oaks Creek and constructed three churches - First Baptist (1860), Second Baptist (1862), and Third Presbyterian (1864). On July 24, 1861, he married Anna Clementson at First Baptist Church; they had two children: John A. Sachse (born 1865) and Barbara Bessie Sachs (born 1867). In 1870, the town of Bastrop was organized as a post office within Bastrop County under name "Sachsen". On November 16th of that year Act 757 authorized annexation of neighboring Fort Worth into Arlington County due to lack of development within Bastrop Township itself; however this idea never came to fruition because no land was available for annexation within that limits. John A. Sachse became president pro tempore of the Texas Senate in 1907 and until his death in 1928 Collins Peebles succeeded him as speaker pro tempore thereof body without opposition from either house thereof save one instance where Senator Peebles abstained from voting on passage out OF THE SENATE BILL NO 4391 IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON JUNE 15TH OF THAT YEAR AS TO AUTHORIZE EXISTING FOUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN BARSTOP COUNTY WERE IT NOT FOR THE ACTUAL REPORTS AND COMMENTS RECEIVED FROM PUBLIC OFFICIALS RESPECTING THOSE SCHOOL DISTRICTS I BELIEVE THAT SUSPENSE MAY HAVE BEEN PROVIDED BY THE MEMBERS OF THIS HOUSE CONCERNING LETTER DROPS CONTAINING INFORMATION RELATING TO AN EXPANSION OF HUNDRED MILES NORTHERNLYOFASTOW SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL WOULD MAKE IT SO THAT THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR A NEW SCHOOL DISTRICT IN BARSTOP COUNTY PURSUANT TO ACT 757 BUT WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF SUCH MATTER THERE CANBE No assurance REGARDING THAT STATUS
