Sachse is a small town in eastern Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,304 at the 2010 census. Sachse is one of five towns in the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler to arrive in Sachse was James A. Smith on July 10, 1836. He and his family built a cabin on a knoll near what is now Fourth Street and West Main Street. In 1840, John Bledsoe moved to Sachse from Springdale and founded the first grocery store in this area. In 1853, Samuel Bachman arrived and opened a general store on Second Avenue which became known as Bachman's Drug Store. On October 9th of that year, Achille Rochellais bought the drug store from Bachman for $500 cash and moved it to its present location on Commerce Street where it continues to operate today as Rochellais Drugs Incorporated (Rochellais Pharmacy). In 1864, Anton Cedergren moved to Sachse from Waco with his family and started a bakery called The Cedergren Bakery & Cafe which still stands today at 4th street and Elmwood Drive. This early business activity helped spawn many other successful businesses throughout the years including: Fidelity bank; First National Bank; City National Bank; Midland State Bank; Texaco Service Station #1; Texaco Service Station #2; ChevronTexaco station located at 2nd Street/Commerce Drive SW corner of 2nd Street SW corner of 3rd Avenue SW A few months after Achille Rochellais' purchase of Bachmann's Drug Store, he also purchased an old cotton gin next door at 611 Elmwood Drive which he renamed "Rochellais Cotton Gin". This structure continued in use until 1984 when it was destroyed by fire. The building currently stands vacant but has been used as part of local schools since 1978-1979 when East Texas Intermediate School District 131 decided to move its main campus from Wichita Falls to Sachse due to the growth of that community thereabouts In addition theretoon several churches have also set up shop here over time including First Baptist Church (1884), Sutherland Springs Baptist Church (1925), Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish - Our Lady Of Loretto Shrine (1964), Sacred Heart Catholic Parish - Holy Rosary Parish (1976) As well as numerous other small businesses like: Kwik-E-Mart Supermarket chain -anchored at Third Street SE corner of Broadway SE corner of 4th Avenue SE between IH35 & IH39 Estrada plaza restaurant - anchored just south side 3rd Ave.(now Live Oak Place) across from McDowell's Barbecue situated east side across 5th Ave./ US 59 opposite Sams Club
