Sachse is a small town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,521. The name Sachse comes from the German word "Sacha," meaning "a mill." Sachse became a post office in 1892. The town was laid out by James W. Sachse and his brother-in-law Moses Fenton. It was named for General Samuel Sachs, who fought in the Mexican–American War and served as Commanding Officer of Brigade No. 5th Texas Infantry Regiment (1846-48). The first settlement at Sachse was made on November 14, 1872 by George Wetherbee and others under the leadership of Captain John Pritchard. On October 10, 1875 Captain John Pritchard and Others erected a log cabin hereon called "Pritchard's Cabin." This cabin stood until 1886 when it burned down due to an overloading of flour sacks delivered to it by wagonloads from McLennan County. A new cabin was built about two miles east of where this old one used to stand by Jno Daugherty with assistance from Captains Pritchard and Sperry; Mrs. Daugherty also assisted in its erection. A grocery store operated here for some time before being taken over by Scholastic Brothers Grocery Company which operateed it until 1906 when they moved out because of prohibition laws that were in effect at that time. In 1911 there were three stores operating: One owned by G H White & Son ran on Elm Street between First Street and State Highway 62; another run by C M Smith & Sons on Main Street west of US 66 north of IH 35W; another store operated as a general store by Mr S Schluter south side intersection of FM 824 between US 67 N&W & IH 35W just past SH 360 EAST From 1905 through 1916 there were no businesses open within three blocks around school building known as Park Avenue Extension or Park Avenue Place extending southeast from 3rd Ave to Main Streets corner opposite Post Office
One of the earliest firearms sights was a crossbowight, which was used in Europe to assist in aiming. This early sighting device consisted of a tube that fit into a recessed housing on the stock of the firearm, and an adjustable iron focuser. A crossbowman could use this sight to aim at his target using his eyes and hand while holding the bowstring against his shoulder. The crossbowight remained in use until the development of rifles and shotguns made it less necessary.
In 1836, a German manufacturer named Adolf Weber designed and produced the first true per-gun sight, which he called the "Weber" sight. In 1876, another German manufacturer, Klingel & Mohr produced a similar device known as the "Klingel" sight. Thissight retained many features of the Weber sights, but also featured a detachable bipod with rubber coating that allowed it to be attached to a rifle stock in either hand. Klingel sights were popular among snipers and cavalrymen during World War I because they could be fired independently and allowed quick adjustment of aiming point while on horseback. Sachse is a small town in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 712 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Sachse was founded in 1881 by German immigrants and became a popular agricultural center because of its large corn and cotton crops. With the onset of World War II, the town's economy changed as many manufacturing jobs went away due to wartime shortages. Since then, Sachse has become an affluent suburb of Austin. The first settler in Sachse was Friedrich Wilhelm Heinemann who arrived in 1881. He founded a farm on what is now South Main Street and built a house there which still stands today. In 1885, Gottlieb Kamphausen bought land from Heinemann and started to build his own home on it called Kamphausen House. Many other farmers followed Kamphausen's lead and developed their businesses around the market place where they sold their products: farmer Harry Kapp established Kapp's grocery store on East 5th Street (now South Main Street), Julius Löffler ran a livery stable on North 2nd Street (now West University Avenue), John Wiegand opened his mill on East 6th Street (now North First Avenue), Wilhelm Rupperts set up his bakery on North 3rd Street (now West University Avenue), Heinrich Pohl opened his cigar factory on South Second Avenue (now West ThirdStreet). In later years, these businesses were consolidated into one: Seagram Distilling Company located at 333 Elmira Road near present-day southbound I-35 ramp access
Sachse was founded in 1848 by John Sachse and his wife, Rebecca. The town was named after Samuel Sachse, a landowner who donated the land for the town. The first store in Sachse opened in 1851. In 1890, the town had a population of 113 people. In 1916, the town got its own post office. By 1920, the population had grown to 511 people. In 1930, Eisenhower moved from Wichita to Sachse and started his political career there. The community had a population of 1,762 people by 1940. By 1950, it had shrunk to 753 people. The last person to live in Sachse died in 1960.
