The courthouse held many functions during its years of operation - including serving as courtroom for various legal cases; hosting receptions honoring distinguished guests such as Presidents Ulysses S Grant and Woodrow Wilson; publishing local papers; and serving as home to the county jail until 1907 when it was replaced by a new jail building which remains standing today on Courthouse Square!
