The Rowletsons were among the earliest settlers of East Texas. John Rowlett helped found Wichita Falls in 1907 and served as its first Mayor. He also served as an early representative to the Texas House of Representatives. In 1919, he became mayor of Wichita Falls and remained in that position until his death in 1928. Anna Rowlett continued to live at home until her death in 1951. They are buried together at Wichita Falls Cemetery. During World War II, Rowlett played a significant role as an airfield near Fort Worth during the war effort. The town was razed tothe ground during the war but was rebuilt with new construction methods and landmarks such as a Rowellt Museum which still stands today (opened in 1978).
