James Peake on Jan 1, 1931 as part of his plan to centralize government services throughout the county system. Today, Rowlett remains an important community with strong cultural and commercial ties to Austin and other major metropolitan areas within Texas and nationally. The first post office was established inRowlett on November 12, 1876. In 1902, the community of Rowlett granted incorporation to Tyler County. On November 15, 1907, the town of Rowlett lost its charter due to lack of votes from residents in favor of it. On July 16, 1908 the towns of White Settlement and Carthage amalgamated with Rowlett to form a new municipality. On December 2nd 1916 the town repealed their incorporation ordinance and reverted back to being an unincorporated community named after Anna Rowlett

The first post office in Rowlett was established in 1881. In 1886, the town had a population of seventy-six people. By 1902, the population had increased to one hundred twenty-four people. The first school in Rowlett was built in 1903. In 1916, a new courthouse was built and the town came into being as an incorporated village under the name of Rowlett. In 1951, the village became an unincorporated community again and it has since been abandoned.
