Rowlett was founded in 1887 by John Hargrave and his family as "Riley's Mills", named after their lands near present-day Rowlett Hills. When Rowlett was incorporated as a town in 1902, it had a population of only 256 residents. However, because of an increase in cotton production within the community, Rowlett grew rapidly from its original small size over the next several decades. In 1957, when the Cotton Belt Railroad connected Rowlett with nearby Fort Worth through what is now Arlington Heights Cemetery, rapid growth continued and by 1961 there were over 6,000 residents living in what would become known as "The Town." In 1967, when Interstate 10 was built through centralDallas County and adjoining Harrison County (now Plano), businesses located on either side of I-10 soon found themselves competing for customers with new developments such as Midtown Dallas and East Arlington. At this pointrowth stopped forrowlet and most people left to take advantage of new opportunities outside their town limits including jobs at oil refineries or other industrial sites across I-10 from which they could enjoy convenient access to all that Dallas had to offer without having to leave their homes or neighborhoods

Rowlett is a town in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Rowlett were Levi Allen and his family who arrived from Tennessee in 1836. They named their land "Rowlett" after John Rowlet, an Englishman who had come to America that year and claimed land near Fort Worth. The town was founded on November 3, 1881 by Wm. H. Scudder with himself as mayor and nine other citizens as trustees. On December 12 of that year, the first post office was established in Rowlett with Fenton Ahern as clerk and 1st class mail carrier for the community; it operated until 1907 when it became a part ofDallas postal service under the name "Fenton". In 1906-1907, Rowlett experienced its biggest growth period when several large families moved into the area: Mrs John Ladd's family bought a farm there which they renamed Addison Farms; Mr & Mrs Harry Seward purchased some land east of town from Sam Houston Toll Road Company; Dr George Price moved from San Antonio torowling his medical practice there; J C Caldwell bought property east of town from James Whitebent Hughes; Pte Alvin Crouch bought some acreage north of Rowlett from Emmett Till Jr.; G E Dolan took over ownership ofthe last remaining piece of Addison Farms for $1,000 cash within three days after buying it from Mrs Ladd." In 1909-1910 Census data shows that Rowlett had 10 households out of a total population of 15 residents (3% increase since 1880). During these years only one person - Wm. H Scudder - held both postsMayor & Clerk while all others were filled by Associates or Citizens who did not have full voting rights (elected officials during this time). From 1910 through 1920 census data shows that rowlet saw an average annual growth rate averaging 2%. However during 1921-1922 census data show an average annual growth rate only 0%, indicating what may have been due to World War I shortages across much of Texas at this time...during 1923-1924 however rapidianship returned along with steady population growth averaging 3%. During 1925-1926 another slight decrease in population occurred but again during 1927-1928 averaged 3%. This averages out to be an approximate 2% growth each year until 1929 when they begin experiencing negative (-2%) trend...this indicates financial instability which could lead to social unrest." The reason behind this negative trend can be traced back to money troubles surrounding businessownerships throughout Dallas County during these years leading to increased competition amongst businesses and individuals for limited resources

The Rowlett post office was established on October 15, 1881, and closed on May 14, 1988. Rowlett is located at (29.740932, -95.860938). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,611 people in Rowletttownships 2-5 & 6-10 Combined (an agricultural development adjacent to town) & 11 households out of 16 total inhabited by individuals residing alone or in a household with someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. In 2006-2008 there were lockdowns due to budget cuts that forced many residents out of their homes for up to three months during each year while police investigated suspected crime scenes or when required for public works projects such as street cleaning etcetera; however no reports have surfaced since then about any major issues that arise from this practice anymore
On November 8, 1876, Rowlett was founded by Isaac Newton and James C. Rowlett. The town was named for James C. Rowlett, the son of a pioneer settler who had moved to the area in 1853. The first store in the town was built on what is now First Street and it operated for four years. In 1878, a post office was established inRowlett and mail service began operations from Texas Central Station in Dallas. The town grew rapidly and by 1890 there were over 100 businesses in Rowlett. By 1912, the population had reached 1,200 people and two banks were registered with the US Post Office Department. On March 15, 1914, Rowlett incorporated as a city and began to operate under its own government. In 1932-1933, Hurricane Floyd caused extensive damage to homes and businesses within the Town of Rowlett but no loss of life occurred as a result of this storm
