Rowlett is a town in Starr County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. The village of Rowlett is located within the town limits. Rowlett was founded in 1881 by John Fenton and his family. It became an incorporated town in 1902. In 1909, Rowlett created its own school district which remains operational to this day. The first post office opened in Rowlett on April 6, 1889. A railroad station was built there in 1912 and served as the community's primary artery until the late 1920s when express trains replaced local passenger traffic. In 1938, Rowlett began construction of what would become its first high school which was completed in 1939. It has been continuously operated by the same educational institution ever since; with only one interruption (the 1964–1965 school year). Today, Rowlett High School offers a variety of courses including: art, agriculture/farming, business/commerce, education/schooling/teaching., engineering/engineering technology/, health sciences/, human services/, justice (), law enforcement (), marketing ().

In 1861, during the American Civil War, Rowlett served as one of two bases for Confederate General Robert E. Lee's army. On October 15, 1865, following the end of the war, Rowlett came into Union hands and quickly regained its former prominence as an agricultural center. In 1916, it was renamed to Dallas after then-President Woodrow Wilson visited the city.
