The Rowlett Rifle Company was founded in 1881 by John S. Rowlett and Samuel H. Lomax. The company manufactured shotguns, rifles, and pistols. In 1903 the company merged with the Creek Rifle Company to form the Creek-Rowlett Rifle Company. In 1907 the Rowlett Rifle Company became a subsidiary of Winchester Repeating ArmsCompany. In 1912 Winchester purchased the Rowlett Pistol Company and merged it into their firearms division.
Rowlett is a small town in the heart of Texas, located just south of Austin. The population was 7,830 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name Rowlett comes from a ranch that was established here by John Rowlett in 1881. He and his wife, Anna, had six children: four boys and two girls. Anna died in 1906; John married new woman Alice Budge in 1913 and they had one more child before her death in 1933. In 1936, John's widow gave their home to their son Everett Ladd and daughter Betty Ladd (who married Roy Tuttle). Everett Ladd ran the home until it became available for sale in 1959 but kept it as his family home until he sold it to the city of Austin in 1984. The house has been used as an office building since then, most notably as the headquarters for City Hall from 1975 until its move to its current location on East Sixth Street in 2006. rowlett texas

Rowlett was founded in 1872 by two Methodist ministers, Dr. James W. Rowlett and Rev. C. S. Hill, on a tract of land that had been granted to them by the Texas Legislature. The town prospered from its early days, thanks in part to its location near the then-new Wichita Falls Railroad and its easy access to water supplies and farmland. In 1908, Rowlett became an incorporated town after voters approved a charter amendment granting it municipal status. The following year, the town population reached 2,500 residents; however, this number slowly declined as farming operations moved out of town and new businesses failed to take off. By 1930, Rowlett's population had dwindled to just 100 residents; however, it continued to thrive thanks to the efforts of local boosters such as Mayor Hemanus Ivey and Chamber of Commerce President Harry Laughlin. In 1965, Rowlett merged with neighboring towns Springtown and Pinsonville; these mergers created what is now known as Rowlett/Pinsonville Township Municipality. Despite having low populations throughout most of its history (save for a brief period during World War II when it grew rapidly due to influxes of refugees), Rowlett has produced some noteworthy citizens: Hubert Humphrey was Vice President under Lyndon Johnson; Mayor Ivey was elected mayor three times (1948-1953); Colonel John Foust served two terms as mayor (1973-1975); Reginald "Bud" McFarlane Jr., who played major league baseball for the Houston Astros from 1987-1991;and Gail Borden died at age 95 while still living in Rowlett after being abducted by her husband Tommy later that year
Rowlett was founded in 1876 by John Rowlett and his family. The town grew rapidly due to the discovery of oil in the area. In 1907, Rowlett became a city.
