Rowlett is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Rowlett was originally named "Richmond" after its founder, James R. Richmond (1811-1892). In 1892, it was renamed for Elisha Stevens Rowlett (1865-1942), who had been mayor of Dallas in 1911 and 1912. After his death in 1942, the town's name reverted to Richmond until it was changed again to Rowlett in 1984. The first postoffice in Rowlett open on July 15, 1886 was called "Travis". The current post office building was built in 1907 and serves as the town's only restaurant and store. The community developed around two school districts: the Rowlett Independent School District #2 which operated from 1903 to 1972; and the Fort Worth Independent School District which operated from 1974 to 2002. A new school district formed by combining both schools districts became operational on September 1, 2002 when the independent Fort Worth Independent School District merged into the Rowlett ISD. On November 2nd, 2007 Robert Ladd donated land along I-635 north of town to help create a park that would eventually become known as Arlington Park Elementary/Middle School . The donation has since been used for other purposes such as home construction projects including a new elementary school wing completed in 2009 and another elementary wing under construction now with plans for it to be completed by early 2013

Rowlett is a small town located in Archer County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls–Bedford City, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rowlett was founded by J.W. and Della Rowlett in 1893. The original row of tree-lined streets still exists today as well as many other associated businesses and residences dating back to that time including the current courthouse which stands on top of a hill overlooking downtown Rowlett. The early history of Rowlett can be traced to 1892 when J.W. and Della Rowlett established themselves in what is now known as the town square just west of present day Highway 611 (now US 69). At that time, Archer County was only a two-county area with Buffalo Grove being the larger county seat and Rowlett being its primary agricultural center due to its large acreage holdings in both buffalo grass and cotton land (later selling these holdings to Standard Oil Company). In 1902, residents petitioned USDOT for a road alignment through their community which would eventually become Highway 611 (now US 69) after local citizens successfully lobbied for it during a meeting held at the Community House on July 10th, 1902. In 1916, according to government records, Rowlett had a total population of 501 with 86% rural residents while 4% were non-residents living off farm or ranching activities; all but 2% were white Anglo Americans from Dallas/Fort Worth areas who likely commuted into town for their jobs or socializing with friends during weekdays and evenings outside the home during weekends (the exceptions being blacksmiths who primarily worked in Wichita Falls). This commuting pattern continued until about 1955 when automobiles began becoming more prevalent in society which led to an increase in traffic congestion on HWY 611 which caused businesses along Main Street such as stores closed up shop serving instead customers coming from outlying suburbs such as Wichita Falls or Bedford City through downtown Gatewood Avenue where they parked their cars across from the post office before walking one mile down Broadway to buy goods then returning home via HWY 611) making shopping trips too difficult or inconvenient for most residents not ableto afford circulating funds available within minutes after purchase so they resorted to purchasing items either online or over the phone rather than walking into store directly looking for what they were looking for causing many stores closing outright although some tenants like Sears & Roebuck managed to keep operating thanks largely to patronage generated by tourists visiting central Square each weekend throughout school year ending December 30th despite having no permanent employees other than those working Fridays thru Sundays noon-6pm) finally leading Gateway Mall owner Wm Evans decision not renew his lease after 36 years because he could not find any adequate alternate tenant willing To open A New Store In The Squareanye Plus Our Businesses Were Suffering From High Traffic And Too Many Customers Coming Into Town Extraordinary For A Small Town!Gatewood Avenue Became Known As "The Avenue Of Doom" After This Event
Rowlett was founded in 1876 by John Rowlett and his wife, Sarah. The city was named for the family home on Spring Street. Rowlett's sawmill and gristmill were the first to be built in the city. In 1886, Rowlett organized a local trade union, the Texas Cottonseed Millmen's Association. In 1897, Rowlett purchased land east of town from James Ewing and developed it into what is now downtown Rowlett. The city's first grocery store opened in 1902. In 1916, Rowlett became an independent municipality with its own government and police force. In 1930, the City of Dallas annexed parts of Rowlett including downtown and parts of Farm to Market Road 488. DowntownRowletstown which is still extant today has been designated as a historic district by the Texas Historical Commission
