As a result of this explosion and fire, which destroyed much of downtown Rowlett, many residents left for fear they would be next target if war came back home Afterward many businesses closed down due to lack of customers or equipment available during wartime shortages By 1945 most business had reopened but rowlet's main street had been completely destroyed by fire which also damaged several homes . The reconstruction project began six years later with help from American Legion troops who rebuilt Main Street from start to finish . In 1957 Downtown Business District (DBD) opened up with stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney &co., Coca Cola Refreshment Center etc along with other services like movies theater etc This district replaced what used to be Main Street which dead ended at Church Street just east of I-10

rowlett, texas - Rowlett is a small town in Austin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name Rowlett comes from the Cherokee word "irwiski," meaning "place where water flows." The community was founded on November 5, 1907 by John and Ida Payne as a post office and wagon stop on State Highway 2 (now I-35/I-10) between Athens and Round Rock. The Payne siblings ran a general store until 1916 when they sold it to J.C. Huffman and his wife Lora Huffman. They operated the business until their death in 1951; it then passed down to their daughter Lois Seely Huffman and her husband Earle Seely Huffman Jr., who operated it from 1959 to 1984 before selling it to Gifford Pinchot Sr.'s company Sam Adams Foods Incorporated for $1 million in 1985. In 1988, Gifford Pinchot's son Gordon Pinchot bought the business from Earle Seely Huffman Jr., becoming its new owner and later CEO. Rowlett has been known for its cotton crops since at least 1881 when James Rector patented a method of growing cotton that he called "Rector's System." Cotton production began in earnest in Rowlett in 1915 when local farmers set up an irrigation system using creekside ponds fed by the Comal River; this led to increased yields thanks to better management techniques including seeding at night, Tillage during transplanting season, weaning early plants before maturity (to reduce seed competition), wide spacing of plants throughout the crop cycle (to minimize crossbreeding), use of resistant varieties such as 'Alabama' and 'Arkansas,' fertilization with limestone or other nitrogenous substances (in order to increase yields), mulching with straw or leaves after planting, proper watering during dry spells, anduntil recently also application of cultural practices such as weed control using manures or fungicides
