The area that now includes Rowlett was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s, and over time it grew into a bustling settlement with a population of around 10,000. The city was founded on the site of what is now known as Fort Worth Square, which was an important trading post and military base during the 18th century. In 1836, Rowlett became part of Texas and was renamed to Rowlett after Major General James Denton Morehead. It would be another decade before Rowlett reached its current size – with a population of just under 20,000 in 1881 – but by then it had already become one of the most important towns in Texas. Rowlett experienced some significant growth during World War II, becoming one of the mostimportant Axis supply points for Nazi Germany. It also played an important role in helping to crush Allied forces during that conflict –particularly during Operation Overlord. After the war ended, Rowlett continued to grow rapidly – reaching a population of over 40,000 by 1970. However, economic troubles began to take hold in the 1980s and 1990s; eventually leading tothe closure of many downtown businesses andlinemen being laid off throughout the city centre. Despite this setback,Rowlett has still managed to maintain its status as one ofTexas' top metropolises; particularly thanksto its strong economy and diversified transportation options.

After the war ended, many new residents moved into Rowlett while others continued to live there until it reached its current population size in 1960. Today, Rowlett remains an agricultural community with a strong emphasis on cotton production; however, it has seen recent growth in other sectors such asEV energy storage and health care services.

Rowlett who had donated land for a school in that town. On November 14, 1913, the first oil well in Rowlett was drilled by Texaco underGovt contract No. RG-5674; production began that same day and continued until 1954 when production ceased because of depletion of oil resources in nearby Anadarko Basin). In 1949/1950 Rhea Oil Company drilled three wells west of town andTexaco started producing gas from these wells beginning on October 15th 1951 (Production stopped because there were too many rocks around Well #1). In 1952/1953 Texaco drilled Well #2 east of town off US 95 near White Sands Ranch; production began on this well on October 15th 1953 but lasted only until early 1955 due to high water levels caused by rains earlier that year). In 1956/1957 Gulf Oil Corporation drilled two wells northeast of town off FM 1025 about 6 miles south of current day Rowlett Road; both wells produced gas until 1963 when they were shut down because corrosion developed in pipelines connecting them to oil refineries offshore.) . After World War II several hundred families from all over North America settled down in what became known as "the Hill Country". These families built homes up around a large cotton plantation which still stands today within minutes' walk or drive of their homes - one example being La Quinta Drive along Houston Pike (now IH-635) running through downtown Rowlett today just across from Trinity Episcopal Church). rowlettexans@gmail com
Rowlett was founded in 1879 by parents of African American slaves. The community grew rapidly after the railroad arrived, and in 1907 Rowlett became the first black town in Texas. In 1941, Rowlett became a city, and in 1990 it merged with neighboring Garland to form the current city-county combination.
