Round Rock, Texas is a city in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 68,521 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Williamson County and the seventh-largest city in Texas. The name Round Rock comes from a location on the east side of the otherwise rural county seat of Austin. The first settlement in what is now Round Rock was made by families of Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived in 1836. By 1840, there were 10 buildings in what is now Round Rock and only one citizen living there—a justice of the peace named William Fenton. In 1848, an act of Congress designated Round Rock as the county seat for Travis County. A courthouse was built on West First Street (now Hearst Avenue) within a year and it served as county hall until 1888 when Austin became the state capital; Austin then moved to its current location on I-35W near Loop 410. In 1861, Confederate general Braxton Braggs established his headquarters at nearby San Fernando Valley before seeking refuge within Travis County during his ill-fated raid through central Texas into northern Mexico City; he never returned to round up Texans for trial and execution like many other Confederate generals did that year. The first post office opened at RoundRock on October 20, 1883; it continued operation under that name until 1915 when it changed its name to Austin Post Office after becoming part ofAustin TX Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As metropolitan areas began to form around greater Austin over time – including Dallas/Fort Worth (southwest), Houston (northwest), San Antonio (northern Mexico) and El Paso (southwest)—roundrock emerged as one of those larger cities best known for its cultural attractions such as music festivals or art galleries located along 6th Street south between Lamar Boulevard and Guadalupe Street which acted as something of an " artery" feeding these various neighborhoods outside downtown Austin with artsy types happening every weeknight nightfall or so without having any impact whatsoever on downtown business activity save maybe some hosting a restaurant or two during happy hour...just something about6th street being alive felt special to me growing up

He and his party of six men were seeking a new land to settle after being shipwrecked on the Texan coast. The area that is now Round Rock was part of Tejas, an Apache Indian village. In 1836, a group of Texans arrived in what is today Round Rock and founded a small town called Austin. Austin became the capital of Texas in 1845 and soon began to grow into one of the largest cities in the United States.
