In Round Rock, Texas, there have been many expansions to the Mount Rushmore National Monument. The first expansion was in 1911 when a land grant was given to Dr. J.B. "Tex" Austin by President William McKinley. The second expansion took place in 1922 when the US Congress passed the Clayton Act which created the National Park Service and gave other agencies like the Forest Service control over national monuments. In 1934, another Expansion Act granted an additional 10 million acres to the monument which included parts of present-day Austin and El Paso County. The next major expansion occurred in 1966 when president Lyndon B Johnson signed a bill authorizing $60 million for new park construction within the monument boundaries. This addition brought park areas such as Cedar Park, Georgetown, and Westlake into the monument system. Other expansions have followed throughout the years with more acreage being added to Mount Rushmore National Monument including current-day San Marcos County and Williamson County in 2018.

Scope mounts were a type of mount which allowed the shooter to place an optical device on the barrel of a firearm, such as a rifle or shotgun. The first scope mounts were created in the early 1800s by French gunsmiths, and were very rudimentary devices that used metal plates to attach to the barrel. These mounts generally failed because they were easily knocked off during recoil and movement. In 1892, British gunsmith John Brownell developed a design for a scope mount which he called the Brownell-Bissell Mount. This mount featured three metal circles that could be rotated to adjust the height of the sighting platform on the rifle or shotgun. The Bissell Mount became very popular, and was purchased by many firearm manufacturers across Europe. In 1903, American gunsmith George Webley designed and manufactured the first telescopic sight mount known as "Webley-Brownello". This mount consisted of two rings that could be clicked together to tighten or loosenthe fit of the sights onto the barrel. This system became very popular among shooters because it allowed for greater accuracy when using telescopic sights. The development of airguns in the early 1900s led to an increase in demand for Scopemounts, which allowed shooters to place airguns up close without having them knock off during recoil and movement. In 1907, American firearms manufacturer Remington introduced its own Scopemount called the Remington-Rand Mount. This mount featured four round circles that could be rotated to adjust elevation on an airgun 226mm (8") long tube!
In the late 1800s, a series of expandable scope mounts were developed to increase the accuracy of rifles. These mounts allowed for more than one shot at a target from different positions.
The city of Round Rock, Texas was founded in 1856 by General Sam Houston. It became a town in 1870 and was named for theRound River that flows through the area. On November 3, 1845, the Republic of Texas was created from the Mexican land grant of San Antonio. The new state had a population of around 25,000 and its capital was located in Austin. On December 2, 1847, the General Land Office granted a charter to the First Baptist Church in Austin, which became one of the first churches in Texas. In 1850, Austin became an independent republic and the church lost its charter.
